I thought it would be nice to share inspirational (through a religous/spiritual message about God) movies you enjoyed.
Here are a couple off the top of my head that I really enjoyed:
Ostrov (The Island) - a Russian movie about a fool for Christ.
Henry Poole is Here - A man is dying and moves back to his original neighborhood, but not original house he grew up in. His religious neighbor sees a picture of Christ on the side of his stucco house. Interesting movie. The faith of the neighbors help to bring this man some faith.

The best strictly religious movie I've ever seen is The Passion of the Christ. You know if I buy a movie that isn't sci-fi, it's good.
Another one that has a Catholic theme was actually directed by a Methodist (I think.). The Exorcism of Emily Rose. Freaky movie, but well done. A good portrayal of theology intertwined there as well.
In the first Spider-Man movie, there is a dramatic scene where someone is praying the Our Father. I like the movie too. The whole "With great power comes great responsibility" can relate to grace in a way---when you are given a gift, how will you use it?

My husband thought the Passion of Christ was one of the best religious movies he'd ever seen as well...but I know he loves Ostrov, so that may be his fav. now. I never have watched but a couple bits from the Passion of Christ because I don't stomach violent scenes well at all.

Just Like Heaven (even though it was a romantic somewhat comedy) was really good. The main good message in the movie, I thought, was the issue of pulling the plug on a person in a coma who's brain waves were not quite dead, and how even though people may think that person is gone, they may not be.

This was actually an English tv series, not a Hollywood movie, but I love the theme through Brideshead Revisited of how God's grace works throughout our lives to bring us to Him. It's more apparent in the book than the series, but still unmistakable.

Mary, I haven't heard of that tv series. But that's no surprise. I don't watch much tv. LOL

M. Night Shyamalan's Signs also has a good theme of how God works through the situations of our lives for good.

It was done in the early 80s, I think. It has some great actors - Jeremy Irons, Anthony Andrews, Sir Laurence Olivier, Sir John Gielgud, Claire Bloom. You can get it on DVD.
