Scientists have discovered that there are huge cracks in the Magnetic Field (magnetosphere) surrounding the earth that stay open for hours, letting massive amounts of energy from the likes of CME's through.
Our atmosphere protects us anyways, so it doesn't really make for a huge deal I guess. It does, however, make for a rough ride for satellites, communications and power. It also makes for some interesting space storms, auroras and the like.
It's worth a read, anyways, especially if you get tired of the same old arguments that flow through here ad infinitum.

The same tired arguments of evolution, creation, the flood.. The ones that seem to go around in circles They're fun for a while, but it's hard to learn anything new when everyone is repeating themselves.

Yeah, I know what you mean...when you stop learning or gaining insight in a certain topic it's time to look at something else.
