Reps: 264,690,443,271,458,624 (power: 264,690,443,271,483) | | | This is our justice system? Ex-astronaut accepts plea deal in love triangle case - CNN.com Nowak was accused of stalking Shipman and using pepper spray on her in the airport parking lot. She had previously pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted kidnapping with intent to inflict bodily harm, battery and burglary of a vehicle using a weapon.
Plea bargained to: Nowak pleaded guilty to burglary of conveyance, a third-degree felony, and a charge of misdemeanor battery in connection with the February 2007 incident involving Air Force Capt. Colleen Shipman.
Her sentence?
2 days in jail.
She drove 900 miles to commit these crimes. Premeditated.
1 felony and 1 misdemeanor?
I am all for going easy on first time offenders, but this woman needs help.
Part of the plea bargain needs to be Psychiatric help. I also would have prefered at least one more felony. The attack on the victim was not simple battery.
I believe she wanted to do serious bodily harm to the victim.

You mean the justice of the Salem Witch Trials?
Justice has never existed, only abominations trying to mimic it. On average, we have been making better abominations these days... on average.

What was the evidence? When the prosecutor has no evidence, he will bend quite low for what ever conviction he can get, some of which are downright scary how low they will bend, until you realize the person would have otherwise walked. But I agree she should be forced to get some form of therapy as part of the deal.

Reps: 9,223,372,036,854,775,808 (power: 9,223,372,036,854,792) | | | Justice departed this country when moral relativism invaded it years ago.
The problem with moral relativism is that it accepts no absolutes, which permits it to deny anything, contradict everything, and be held responsible for nothing - evidenced by many of the posts in these forums on topics of spiritual, moral, political, or social import.
There can be no justice when there is no agreement on what is right or wrong - any more than there can be substantive discussions on topics of import.

Yes there can.
All of us other rubberneckers who feel the need to intrude on the personal affairs of others without knowing anything more than what a newspaper chooses to tell us (and what can fit), need to step back and stop feeling like we have enough information to make proclamations about whether justice was served.
ps....it says right in the article that she's been in counselling for a 1.5 years. You can solve a LOT in that much time. On top of that, there is an anger management class to take.
I would agree that a "letter of apology" is waaaay too grade 5 though.

Yes, kinda hyperbole, but not really.
It's quite scary.
