The 240-194 vote was a blow to liberals who would let the Obama administration decide whether to cover abortions in a government-provided insurance plan. Sixty-four Democrats joined 176 Republicans in favor of the prohibition.
I'll have to verify how my rep voted...this will determine whether he gets re-elected or not.
I am pretty certain our senators are in real trouble.

Whatever. It they want to put one more dot on the dot of a "I" then so be it. I mean using Gov funds for abortions has been illegal since 1976.

the abortion issue is one of many reasons I am opposed to this bill....just as it is with most Americans.
If you think fed funds have been kept out of paying for abortions I am afraid you are extremely naive.

From Politico: "After tense negotiations Friday night - with White House officials and representatives of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, as well as key Democratic members of Congress - House Democratic leaders agreed to allow a vote Saturday on sweeping changes to the abortion provision.
The change would permit abortion coverage for people receiving federal aid for their insurance only in the case of rape or incest or when the mother's life is endangered. That change is consistent with a 1970s-era federal law governing public funding of abortion.
Under the new provision, only people buying private insurance with their own funds would have an elective abortion covered."

What more do they have to do to make you feel better? Make a house resloution saying "We are super duper sure that Abortions won't be federally funded, cross our hearts"?
