Confusion regarding my faith

I was born into a new age evangelical family, church every sunday and my parents would often read stories to me from the bible. As I grew older I was exposed to new ideas and my own personal understandind of the world broadened. I'm unsure if you have been asked this before but...

I seem to have lost my faith in the church as an organisation and in the theistic god for one main reason. If god is a perfect being, why does he get jealous when we worship other gods? If he is perfect why must he judge? I've been told by my families minister that god is omni-present and all knowing but surely if he knows everything, he must know the good in a man or woman before they act? Why must this perfect being judge our every waking moment and punish us if stray from what he says? Why is someone winning the lottery deemed a blessing but someone dying from cancer is "a part of gods plan"?

Surely, if jehovah is perfect he must be pure energy, devoid of emotions or bias and without anything that could be seen as spiteful, incorrect or contradictory.

Please respond as this has been a very serious concern for me

Here is a good book on the nature of God. It is free online. I believe if you read it it will give you a bigger and fuller view of who God is. Your questions arise out of a limited understanding.

Let me know what you think. You might sample these chapters:

CHAPTER 17 The Justice Of God
CHAPTER 21 The Holiness Of God
