I just got back from a hardcore Christmas-decoration-shopping-spree and I totally feel ya.
I actually found quite a few deals though shopping this early, so it wasn't all bad
But the nativity scenes were outrageous... a good looking one really costs you. The crappy ones are cheap but... crappy.

You know, I have blown money on more frivolous stuff like suits, I'll dig in my wallet for a nice nativity scene.

Watch for them in the dollar stores. IIRC they had some miniature sets last year.

Yeah but they are always poorly-painted, I tried that last year.
I saw one today where Mary looked like a 90-year-old hag due to a crappy paintjob

I bought this at a art/handcraft market that I went to with Traingosorry once.
I forget how much it cost exactly(ballpark 20-30 dollars) but it was made by African women and part of the money went to families or orphans in poverty in Africa.
It's just clay. I think it's really simple and sweet
Or you could always go with this

I like the highly detailed ones, and not too many animals, I don't want the focus to be a zoo. I want it centered around the Christ child, with the wise men in reverence.
