Please Help! Problems with Parent & Faith

Hi everyone, I was wondering if I could get some encouragement or help from anyone out there regarding problems with my mom. We fight everyday and it is really taking a toll on both of us spiritually, I think me moreso. I used to be so filled with the Spirit, but now I just sleep 18 hour days because I am depressed on several fronts. Firstly, with all the things going on in the world, and me being so young (20s), I am having somewhat of a minor fit. I basically got thrown into the world at 17, worked hard to graduate from an IVY just to find out it doesn't matter. $100,000 in debt for nothing. No jobs, no money worth anything, no assets. Fresh out of school. Now, I am competing for entry level jobs that recently-layed-off experienced managers just take. But that by itself is completely tolerable.I also know a lot of stuff going on behind the main stream media scenes... Stuff that is not hard to find, but very disturbing (stuff pertaining to echastology in geo-politics). I have plenty of associates, but only 1 person who I can talk to about bible and these events. He was a true Christian brother. I was a strong(er) Christian then. Having only one real friend 3000mi away isn't comforting. I am literally all alone. The things I talk about (geo politics and echastology) are sometimes "too intense" for my mother, and she usually stops me mid excitement. My mom is also a single parent with a high stress job. Dad left at 6 month. and since about maybe 4 years old she has been a heavy drinker. Sometimes I feel like it would have been better off if I wasn't born, but she claims to love me more than anything in the world. Her actions confuse the heck out of me. Most of our arguments are when she is drunk. Also, she is very stubborn and controlling, so even candid talks about drinking affects me doesn't resonate. Now, I am living with her, but I have been and still am trying to get out. Again, no assets, and since she helped me through school she asked/demanded I just focus on school and no job. Granted, physics is demanding, but I could have worked. I did only to be royally messed over financially and academically. I also tried to line up internships and jobs but a no go.Now I am in a situation where I am financially dependent on her, and we can't be around each other for more than 3 hours without fighting. It is daily! Now I drink a lot, and I wake up to eat just so that I can drink and go back to bed for another 18+ hours. Maybe she is upset that the world stole my innocence, or that I drink, but she never wants to fully hear or comprehend WHY and WHAT I went through. I guess my life is too much for her... Sucks I have to live it.I am not foolish I know I am blessed in many different ways, but just because I have "things" doesn't men I am or should be happy. Inside it hurts as much as if I was tortured. I started coming here to find other brothers and sisters in Christ, but it sometimes reminds me of the world out there... Lots of name calling, judgment and disunion especially when evolution comes up....Anyway this is pretty much a last resort place to get advice. I would appreciate any help. I don't know what to do. Sometimes I get so angry I want to get violent. I used to be able to train on the bag, but now I just sleep. I think my perspective on life - near end of world- is the problem. I can't help what I know, even physics of the universe is beckoning the "end." I don't care about the disasters or end so much as I do agreeability and togetherness. Its upsetting. And everyone just marginslizes my situation IMMEDIATELY because I am young. Doesn't that get old? Sometimes I'm too young to be old, and too old to be young according to the people that matter to me. It makes me feel worthless, they act like I'm not fighting with my own spiritual battle! I guess I just lost hope and faith in life. I know God will do and protect for His kids, but I feel he won't deliver me out of this. I mean how much trial can one person go through? I have been depressed for 12 years and just because it isn't physical doesn't mean it hurts any less, or is any less meaningful. Sorry for going on...

no need to apolgize.
yes many of us do believe the world is winding down, but it is good news, we shall soon be in the very presence of God. The love of God does pass our understanding, and we shall be in God's love for all of eternity.
I will pray for you and your mother both.

1 Peter 5:7-11
casting all your care upon Him, for He careth for you.
Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil as a roaring lion, walketh about seeking whom he may devour. Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethern that are in the world.
But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
To Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever, amen.

sister take your situation to the Lord, cast that care (all of it) upon Him, He loves you, and He loves your mother.
love your mother, and forgive her, even if she is wrong.
be blessed

I would add - get a revelation of perfected Love. This is a love that recognizes no insult or barb and one that quenches fights and bickerings - seeing as fights require two people and in Love you don't participate. No matter how unjust it seems, when you walk in Love, that casts that care on Christ and they can say and do whatever they want and it won't affect you. You are liberated, free to Love them and seek to bless them regardless. And if you get that revelation within you, you carry that to them as well - we are blessed to be a blessing. So ask for wisdom and receive it and cast your cares on the shoulder of our Lord.

It can be very hard having a loved one is addicted to alcohol. Have you ever heard of Al-anon before? They help people who are friends or family of alcoholics and are struggling because of it.

For over 55 years, Al-Anon (which includes Alateen for younger members) has been offering strength and hope for friends and families of problem drinkers. It is estimated that each alcoholic affects the lives of at least four other people... alcoholism is truly a family disease. No matter what relationship you have with an alcoholic, whether they are still drinking or not, all who have been affected by someone else’s drinking can find solutions that lead to serenity in the Al-Anon/Alateen fellowship.

That's kinda how I am right now. I sleep obnoxious amounts of time. I'm still in school (as a math major). I'm not going to an Ivy League school so I won't be in as much debt. However, I'm trying to find a job and I can't even get McDonald's to hire me. I have absolutely no money. I want to join some honor society but they each want 20-25 dollars and I can't even give them that. I don't have 20 cents to give anybody.

Earlier in the summer, I was drinking a lot (I even smoked a little but didn't get addicted) but, as I said, I can't afford anything...

Give all of that to God by faith. Recognize the facts, give them names and cast those cares on the shoulders of Christ, whose name is above all names. Praise and thank the Lord for His provision and receive it by faith - speaking what appears not as tho it were - and it will be. I've spent months as a vagrant and never worried about where my next meal will come from or where my life would go - once you cast that care on His shoulder then you don't look at the Goliath of problems besetting you, you look at the Almighty Lord that is far bigger than that Goliath. Then He'll tell you you didn't get that McDonald's job because that's not where He wanted you - but rather He wanted you sacking groceries instead. Or working as an intern at a mathamatics think tank. When you cast away the cares, His voice is so much easier to hear. Praise Him. Thank Him. Stir up the gifts of the Spirit and stir up the joy within you. Our lives here are but blinks in time - soon we shall cast off these dust-born tents and take on bodies like our Resurrected Lord. So don't worry. In our Covenant, that is one of our responsibilities. Not to fear. Not to worry. Worry and fear hinder the Blessing and hinder your receiving your supply. Get on the Rock, my friend - put your feet down and refuse to be moved by that which is so much less than your Lord. You have the Victory already.

Oh, I am blessed. My finanical aid paid for my dorm room. My meal plan is such that I could theoretically walk in to the dining hall five times a day even for a glass of water. So I've got food and shelter. I am more fearful for the future than anything. I have a grand total of 3 months of work experience to my name and I've never worked in my hometown area.

Consider this then. Since all our supply comes from God, technically, no matter who you work for, your boss is God. Period. We are in the world but not of it - and have no reason to fear because our Lord can provide so far above and beyond our needs, beyond even our imagination, there there is nothing to worry about. God knows what you can do and He will clear the way for you. Develop your trust in Him - something we all must do - and learn to rest on His Word. Really REST. His burden is light, after all. You can do it, my friend - I know it and am convinced that God has wonderful things prepared for you. Be of good cheer then - even if you only have two pennies, you are richer than the most wealthy Trump because of your Father. With that in mind, live. Continue the race in confidence. Listen and go where He guides. Be joyful in all that He guides you to. He guided me to sack groceries after closing down a business and I was ecstatic to work for Him even doing that. I took a position that no one else wanted, working in the deli, and was bubbly that He had me doing that work. He now has me working as the IT Manager of a hardware corporation - they called me out of the blue and offered me the job. So take joy no matter what He gives you because it is a path, a journey - and a great journey it is. He is your boss and a good Boss He is!!! If He loved you enough to send His Son to die for you - He loves you enough to take care of you so much better than the birds of the air and flowers of the field. What a marvelous Father we have!

Boku - I hear the hopelessness, the anger, the pain, and the despair in your post. Makes my heart heavy. I've never been where you are but have had times of pain and been in seemingly impossible situations. There were times I didn't handle it right. I turned to other things to comfort when I didn't know the answer. But the times I did get it right, when I went to Jesus, who is the answer, He brought me through. I guess what I'm saying is I've never regretted looking to the Lord.

How you go about that can be something altogether different for one than another. You could tell your problem to some Christians and it may not be the thing to do. You may go to "A Church" and find a bunch of religious hogwash. Getting your hands on good teaching and hearing good anointed praise and worship is essential.

Start where you are by getting the bad things out of your life. Anything you can put out of your life that destroys. Obviously your mom is not one of those things right now. Not to worry. As you are changed by His glory, she'll most likely want to know what it's all about. Right now, don't worry about her. Next, whatever is good, peaceful, productive, cling to that. Take note as to how certain music makes you feel. Does it produce or condone anger? Does it make you feel depressed? Does a movie make you fearful? Hateful? Those are the things to get rid of.

I don't mean to tell you what to do, but I have found this to work. It takes time though. Things probably won't change over night, but just as when you go on a road trip it may take quite some time, at least you are on your way as soon as you pull out of the driveway. A finisher lives life with the end in view. You won't be where you are now if you start moving. And if you're not where you want to be by tomorrow, you just keep going.

Jesus is the way. This is no cliche. This is no pat answer.

Jesus is.

He is the way.

He is real.

And He really cares about you.

When one asked a leader of a Hindu nation what would cause them to move towards Christianity he responded with great clarity and directness, “First, I would suggest all you Christians, missionaries and all, must begin to live more like Jesus Christ. Second, practice your religion without adulterating it or toning it down. Third, emphasize love and make it your working force, for love is central in Christianity. Fourth, study the non-Christian religions more sympathetically to find the good that is within them in order to have a more sympathetic approach to the people.”
