Hang on. Yesterday on BBC News, they said they'd shot dead the gunman. Why on Earth wasn't he shot dead? They essentially let him shoot at everyone, and if he could ever so kindly put his weapon down when he'd finished, would he kindly let them apprehend him? Madness.
Anyway, this is despicable. As Obama said, bad enough overseas, but on US soil? Appalling.

Sounds like they shot him several times on everything I've heard, and he was just unfortunate to have survived.

I know many Soldiers who have been to Ft. Hood, and in fact if not for the intervention of my base commander when I was in Ft. Lewis, I would be there right now. It's hard to believe something like this could happen, and I'm sorry for all the family members of the fallen soldiers. No one expects to die like that in garrison.
As for the shooter, he's going to enjoy a long stint in Leavenworth followed by execution. Unless we abolish the death penalty before he gets it, there's no other way out of it.

Oh let the speculation roll. Guy who kills people is a Muslim, therefore he did it for Islam, in the same way that all Christians who kill people do it for Christianity.
Being a psychiatrist doesn't make you less prone to any form of mental defect, believe me. Let's wait until more details come out before we trip over ourselves rushing to blame the guy's actions on his religious convictions.

They (FBI, etc) are all looking into his background. It seems that he already came to their attn 6 months ago with suicide bomber blogs..But they were trying to prove it was him.
I think what happened is the guy was upset that he would have to face off with his own nationality.. but that's jmo.
