What other types of toys help children develop? I know other Playskool toys do, they have a bunch of videos talking about

We've got a bunch of wooden toys that work on development. They aren't as fancy, but they work on the same skills. We've got several shape sorters (the Melissa and Doug one is our favorite). It works on color and shape recognition as well as her throwing arm :-). We have another Melissa and Doug toy that where you pound a ball through a hole with a hammer and it falls through the box on different tracks. It's good for tracking and sorting as well.

I think most toys are good for developement, but most of us don't realize it unless we think about it. We've also got a wooden version of the popping vaccuum. It's full of brightly painted balls inside a cylinder that rolls and "pops" agains dowels. DD moves it back and forth and watches the balls. Then she trys to grav the balls through the dowels. Then she flips it over. There's all kids of learning and developement going on there.

I remember some of the wooden toys from when I was growing up. I had a few of those popping vaccuums, too cute! Lincoln Logs and Light Brite were some of my favorites and I never thought that they were fun AND teaching me stuff. I just thought I was having a good time. I wonder what playing Barbie for hours upon hours taught me

And tiredwalker, I'm sure you can find wooden toy versions of them since that seems to be your thing (pretty neat).
