It is truly meet and right to bless thee O Theotokos, the mother of our God! More honorable than the Cherubim, and more glorious beyond compare than the Seraphim! Without defilement you gavest birth to God the word! True Theotokos, we magnify thee!
I suppose I do not understand why your parents would have any sway over you becoming a catechumen - you are 21 years old. A legal adult. This choice is about you and your soul, your salvation - why would you put that off because your parents do not understand or are against your conversion?

i think i have made my choice, and i am not putting it off because my parents don't like it. i guess i'm just looking for understanding between us.
the episcopal church has a service at 8 and the orthodox divine liturgy starts at 10 so we can just go to both.
now if only my dad would answer his phone so i can tell him my brilliant idea...
Yeah, I typed a statement, submitted it, then thought otherwise.

I tried that for one month if that.
On the advice of our Orthodox Priest,
we went to the Catholic Byzantine Divine Liturgy at 8:00 AM,
then we headed over to the Orthodox Divine Liturgy at 10:00 AM
No break - get out and drive to the next church.
Well, the parishioners at the Catholic Church wondered
why our family was not hanging around for the coffee and donut hour.
They thought we were being unsociable and rude.
The parishioners at the Orthodox Church wondered why
we were inattentive, always arriving between 5 to 15 minutes late,
and nodding off to sleep. No win.
Our Orthodox Priest had told us to be very attentive at the
Byzantine Catholic Church, and it drained us.
However, when we had to pile in the car and drive at the maximum
speed allowed to reach the Orthodox Church before the
Epistle Reading (yes, we were always late), it just did not work.
In less than one month, we mentioned to the Orthodox Priest that
we wanted to become catechumens if he would accept us. He did.
And the rest was history.

I think it's great that you're trying to work with your parents. I realize you're also acting out of obedience to your priest who told you to work things out with your parents. However, I am really relieved that when I (at age 22) decided to become Orthodox it didn't even occur to me to discuss it with my parents.
I had been through enough spiritual changes by then that they had washed their hands, I guess. Being a PK is hard, I grew up with a bunch of them. *hugs*

It is in obedience to her priest.

"No matter how "right" you may be on various points, you must be diplomatic also. The first and important thing is not "rightness" at all, but Christian love and harmony. Most "crazy converts" have been "right" in the criticisms that led to their downfall; but they were lacking in Christian love and charity and so went off the deep end, needlessly alienating people around them and finally finding themselves all alone in their rightness and self-righteousness. Don't you follow them!..."
-Father Seraphim (Rose)
"Personal opinions have no role in ministry of any kind. When we represent the Church, then we ought only say and do what the Church has asked us to do. All else is wasted energy and an opportunity for sin. It is when we lapse into personal opinions, even when we dress them in the language of the Church, that conflict will arise."
- His Grace, Bp. JOSPEH
