no, not yet. after i first went to an orthodox church she said something like "well, the Orthodox think that they have the truth and no one else does." of course, my impulsive response would've been something like, "yeah that's because we do."
i think her fear is that i don't think that non-Orthodox are going to be saved. or something. i think my mum has been to an orthodox church tho.
i think it's been about that long for me...
You could point out to her that, whether anyone likes it or not, someone is right and someone is wrong about everything. Denying this does not do anything but ensure that if someone denies they might be wrong, they are almost certainly going to be because they have no chance to be corrected or learn. Denying that possibility that one is wrong, or rather, denying the possibility that someone else is right, without actually thinking about it or trying to substantiate that conclusion, does nothing to help anyone and IMO, it's basically just immoral because it causes people to make bad decisions that can hurt or kill people.
Similarly, everyone has the right to an opinion or to hold a thought but not all ideas/thoughts are actually equal: Those that are substantiated by known facts are better, more right or true then those that conflict with what is known. (We need to start teaching this in school in America so people stop saying, as if it made them right, "I have the right to my own opinion!")

yeah, I would agree with what everyone else said. be patient when it comes to this kind of stuff. the best witness for Orthodoxy that you can do is to love and forgive them no matter what they say or do. remember that God does the converting, not us.

I know what you mean about family my immediate family and all of my families friends are Evangelical and the rest Catholic. So no matter what I do I make someone unhappy although the Catholics in my family are pretty nonjudgemental.
I would love to be Orthodox but I still am just inquiring here and there about it. It would be so so fun to be able to finally say I know the truth and be able to feel I have enough of the truth to start bashing all the heretics on CF. If I convert I will feel only Orthodox are Christians and the rest are going to hell(If I convert I am going to more Orthodox than the Orthodox). So maybe thats why God has kept me from going to anymore Orthodox services. Also I still don't agree with a lot of the Orthodox dogma so it's best if I don't attend right now(next liturgy is weeks away anyways).

JacksLadder I hope you don't think that's what Orthodoxy is about! Orthodoxy doesn't take the position that "Everyone not in is going to hell!" In fact, in my experience, that is completely un-Orthodox. The church takes the position that people in the church can be assured of their salvation (so long as they don't reject it before they die), but people outside the church could potentially go to heaven too, it is up to god, it not any human's judgement no matter who they are whether someone is going to end up in heaven or not. There are some wolves in sheep's clothing (people in the church who are not really of the church), and some who are not in the church but still belong to god.

I'm sorry you're having to have these rifts between you and your parents, Julina. I'm sure that is difficult and trying. I will pray for you and your parents.

Shout aloud to the Lord, all the earth; Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before Him with great joy. Know this: The Lord, He is God; He made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving And into His courts with hymns; Give thanks to Him; praise His name; For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, And his truth is from generation to generation. ~~Psalm 99~~
With me, my family was accepting at first, and now they give me grief every now and then. I just come back with the same answer to their questions, over and over, and maybe they will get it someday. I hope.

It is truly meet and right to bless thee O Theotokos, the mother of our God! More honorable than the Cherubim, and more glorious beyond compare than the Seraphim! Without defilement you gavest birth to God the word! True Theotokos, we magnify thee!

Sounds like the same song and dance I heard from ex-catholics about how some catholics possibly might make it to heaven. So are you one of the people that consider all outside your group as pagans?

Actually Jack, what Aesjn said was right on the money. That's why you didn't see any Orthodox jumping all over him.
The Orthodox Church does not make any judgments as to who is going to heaven or who is going to hell. That judgment is for God and God alone.
