Advocates of same-sex marriage hit a roadblock with yesterday’s vote in Maine to reverse a state law allowing the practice. The Catholic Diocese of Portland played a big part in educating voters, as Register correspondent Joan Frawley Desmond explains in this article. It will be running in the Nov. 15 issue.
The Maine Event: Church Instrumental in Marriage Win By Joan Frawley Desmond REGISTER CORRESPONDENT
PORTLAND, Maine — The defeat of same-sex “marriage” at the polls in Maine Nov. 3 suggests that Portland Bishop Richard Malone’s “commonsense” message resonated with the state’s relatively secular voters.
Now, advocates for traditional marriage are expected to advance this argument in future marriage battles, from Washington, D.C., to Washington state.
Its best to celebrate while we can. Ultimately, this fight is already lost.
To the vast majority of people under 35 homosexulity is like lefthandedness:
An oddity without much moral import. Given 10 to 15 years, homosexual marrige will likely be almost univeral.
(Also, it should be noted becuase on one else seem to have noticed. Homosexual rights go passed by voters in Washington State, so we won one and lost one)

The Washington one specified directly that it was not marriage. And honestly, the young are not as in support of it as people think. Not that you are wrong, but I do not think it is as automatic as you say.

If pregnancy presents a challenge, do we as a society rise to the challenge by dispensing with the child? And when a pregnancy comes at a difficult time, what is the worthier response? Do we surround mother and child with protection and love, or do we hold out to her the cold comfort of a trip to an abortionist? Where is our true character as a nation to be seen - let's ask ourselves this question: Where is our true character to be seen, in an adoptive home, or in an abortion clinic? Who are we? Who are we America? That question deserves an answer. Bob Casey Sr.

Matthew Chapter 7
7 "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened."
I was quite surprised to hear this today...I sense a battle brewing over this though.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

It was interesting to see that medical marijuana passed in Maine while the gay marriage bill failed.
There may be more pot-smoking conservatives out there than I realized.
Is it possible that conservatives and liberals could sit around smoking a bowl and find that common ground that President Obama is talking about? Well, it's probably more possible with the bowl than without it.
My pot-smoking days are way behind me, but all these medical marijuana laws might put the fun back into growing old.
