Saw this mentioned in another thread and thought it would be good to talk about openly.
What importance does works have in comparison to faith?
When you think about works, what do you think about?
Should we place more or less emphasis on works?

Works is a reflection of [our] new life in [Christ] being carried out for other's benefit..
What visionary said - with minor adjustments.
Also, this from the Brief Statement of the Doctrinal Position of the Missouri Synod [Adopted 1932].
20. Before God only those works are good which are done for the glory of God and the good of man, according to the rule of divine Law. Such works, however, no man performs unless he first believes that God has forgiven him his sins and has given him eternal life by grace, for Christ's sake, without any works of his own, John 15:4, 5. We reject as a great folly the assertion, frequently made in our day, that works must be placed in the fore, and "faith in dogmas" -- meaning the Gospel of Christ crucified for the sins of the world -- must be relegated to the rear. Since good works never precede faith, but are always and in every instance the result of faith in the Gospel, it is evident that the only means by which we Christians can become rich in good works (and God would have us to be rich in good works, Titus 2:14) is unceasingly to remember the grace of God which we have received in Christ, Rom. 12:1; 2 Cor. 8:9. Hence we reject as unchristian and foolish any attempt to produce good works by the compulsion of the Law or through carnal motives.
Also also, this.
"As an apple tree makes fruit and the fruit does not make an apple tree, so works do not make a Christian, but a Christian does good works." - Martin Luther

You measure someones faith by their works. Jesus is not going to ask you how much faith you have at judgement but if someone was hungry did you feed them, if someone was thirsty did you give them something to drink.

I would think that you can't exclude one from the other, as in that same day there will be people who feed the hungry, gave clothes to the naked, etc, but they will be told to depart.

I would rather be caught doing good, than sinning.

34"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'
There's a really good reason Jesus wants us to do good works. It's an excellent way to come to know Him. When we visit the poor, we encounter the suffering Christ, and when our Lord, said "The poor you have with you always", that's not speaking to futility of our charity or that God wants poor people for every generation, but that Christ has always joined His ministry directly with the poor and if we want to experience Him, He will be with us always.
Good works are good for the soul.
