This is fail, people should be helping one another instead of worrying "teh gayz corruptin yer kidz!" This is what gives christians a bad name, God said to love another, not prohibit them from marriage which may be for better or worse.
Gawd, sometimes christians remind me of the evil dude that would tie the maiden to the tracks and pull his curly mustache. For shame, shame. Let the people get married, and lets start helping one another rather than boil it down to economy and politics.
Jesus say, "Love one another, even your weird gay brother."
You are not loving anyone by blessing an AIDS infected deathstyle.
Neither are you loving a drunkard by giving him a drink or a drug addict by giving him dope.
Jesus came to free us from sin, not free us in our sin.
No but those who follow Christ follow his teachings. Marriage is a union of one man and one woman. A Christian will advise goverment to keep marrriage the way God intended.
Marriage has only been one man one woman for the last couple hundred years. Historically, it's been something quite different.
If god wants marriage a certain way, then he can come down and fix it himself.

Fifteen men on a dead man's chest
Drink and the devil had done for the rest
We wrapped 'em all in a mains'l tight
With twice ten turns of a hawser's bight
And we heaved 'em over and out of sight,
With a Yo-Heave-Ho! and a fare-you-well
And a sudden plunge in the sullen swell
Ten fathoms deep on the road to hell,
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
Your scriptures are worthless, we are a SECULAR Republic.
...which is PRECISELY why we don't have a federal law prohibiting homosexual marriage. Such decisions are left to the STATES, which is entirely within their purview to mandate one way or another - and which is why NOT EVERY STATE has such a law. Some STATES want it. Others don't.
Curious -- since you find the scriptures worthless, what text(s) does your church use in lieu of God's? Might help the rest of us understand where you're coming from when you make the sort of comments you do.

To the thread in general: Sheesh. I can understand how non-Christians wouldn't mind gay marriage, homosexuality, gay agendas, etc. permeating our society -- but for the life of me I can't understand how ANY who claim Christ can condone, approve, or support the gay agenda in ANY FASHION - let alone ridicule, demean, contradict, or bash those Christians who don't and worse - call God's word "worthless."
"Love" is truly a misguided and naive view of God's word, of God's nature when used as an excuse to condone homosexuality. Homosexuality is an act, a behavior, a gross self-indulgence that God has clearly communicated He finds not only abominable - but UNNATURAL - and that above all other gross self-indulgences He despises - how anyone can believe God doesn't find it so truly boggles the mind and sadly shames the name of Christ.
Homosexuality is shameful behavior - as is condoning it or excusing it in any way.
Hate rising.

So will a Christian also advise the Government to only worship the One True God?
If not, why one set of teachings, but not the more important one?

Isaiah 8:12-13 (NIV) "Do not call conspiracy everything that these people call conspiracy; do not fear what they fear, and do not dread it. The Lord Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread."

Bro - helpful hint. You can click on the QUOTE button in the lower right-hand corner of someone's post - that will wrap their post in "quote tags" so it's obviously their comment and not yours (which is what I did in reply to your post here).
If god wants marriage a certain way, then he can come down and fix it himself.
Or, you can type in the quote tags before and after a section of text too.
Syntax: [tag] ...text you want to quote... [/tag] Instead of typing "tag" type "quote" (without the quotation marks)
Or, in the reply window, you can highlight a section of text and click on the "wrap quote tags" icon (looks like a quotation bubble).

So I take it those of you who believe same-sex marriage should be banned also believe non-Christian marriage should be banned too, right? After all, God's definition of marriage is the one we're using here, and I'd like to think that if He invented it He wants to be involved. If he's not, well it's not a real marriage, right?
You'd be kind of a hypocrite to think otherwise in my opinion, but I don't see very many people clamoring to make marriage officially Christian-only so I suspect there are lots of hypocrites in this country who just think gay people are gross and don't deserve the happiness that comes with marriage.

Which just makes me more proud that my fiance and I are having a secular wedding. I wouldn't want it tainted with this idea of marriage that oppresses people in love.
