Obsessive Sinner -Don't Give up on me

Read this and do post a comment you can identify yourself with this poem.

Every Sunday after church, there is so much that I decide
But by mid week, I have already changed the sides
My resolutions to be blameless and just
Often fails to the world’s attractions and lust
Sad, so easily I can lose the sight of thee
Oh Lord please don’t give up on me.

You would have seen so many prodigal sons,
They left you for the world, just only for once
But I ran away from you time and time again,
Broke your heart and caused you all the pain
I wonder, how can you still love someone like me
Oh Lord Please don’t give up on me.

I do wonder sometimes, does one always need the devil,
To sin, transgress and go against Your will,
It seems so natural, there is someone strange within
Who is inclined to stray, rebel, transgress and sin
It seems impossible on my own to break free
Oh Lord please don’t give up on me.

Hypocrisy is my middle name, I’ve learned to live with my guilt and shame
Over the years pretending to be a good believer has become an easy game
But when your people appreciate me are the moments worst
That reminds me of how much I have breached your trust
I don’t know whether I still deserve to plead with thee
Oh Lord please don’t give up on me.

I don’t step back in helping others or hold back in giving
But it’s seems impossible when it comes to a holy way of living
Without holiness, my sacrifices and ministries are waste
As you desire men who are faithful, holy and chaste
God, will there be a light at the end of the tunnel for me?
Oh Lord please don’t give up on me

Today we have enough of commentaries, denominations and bible resources
But lack the will, strength and character to resist the evil forces
Send us the power like on the Pentecostal day
Touch us and renew us in your own special way
Such that we hate sin and serve you happily
Oh my Lord please don’t give up on me.

Now I see why you have delayed and yet have not come
So that your prodigal sons may have a chance to return home
Just when I feel that I can’t face you and am ready to throw the towel
Strangely you whisper ‘come back son everything’s going to be well’
Your limitless love and abounding mercy is too difficult for me to see
Oh Lord please don’t give up on me

There was a time when I felt that I have no scope
To enter your rest, I had absolutely no hope
My heart was full of dejection and condemnation crept
I knelt down at my wretchedness and inconsolably wept
Then you said,’ I took the beatings, the nails, and like a cursed was hanging on the tree
I have paid too heavy a price for you son, to just give up on thee
I have paid too heavy a price for you son, to just give up on thee’.

Now my spirit is renewed, my strength has grown
With confidence and assurance I will approach your throne
You have replaced my long faces, with a radiant grin
As far as the east is from the west, so far from me is now my sin
I am a work under progress; things are not as they are supposed to be
But sooner I know my God you will be pleased with me
It’s because my Savior has never given up on me. Amen

Dear hosanna2009. We know that our Lord never gives up on us. There are some things we have to do, and it is not too hard. Jesus gave us 2 Commandments, they say all what God`s Commandments tell us. 1) Love God with all our hearts, with all our souls, and with all our hearts. When we think about this, we cannot help but feeling thankful. We are made in God`s image, and we know the difference between love and NO love. 2) Also love our neighbour, all others, friend or foe, As we love ourselves. That comes not easy, but we start by treating all we know, or meet, As we would like to be treated. Once we truly start, Jesus will give us His Love, Joy and Peace, to share with each other. We have years to get better and better. Then to follow Jesus sincerely, we pick up our cross, and become truly His. How do we do that? By letting the world know that we are the Lord`s Own. Some might make fun of us, Let Them, some ridicule, they do not think further than their noses. The day will surly come when they realise, " what will happen now? where am I going? There must be more than all those empty and meaningless repetitions? Who am I really? where do I come from? " By having and sharing the Lord`s Love, we will gradually realise that we are doing God`s Will, that He is our Heavenly Father, and the day will come when we will return to our original home with God. I say this humbly and with love, hosanna. Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ.

The Lord gave the grace to write this in one of my lowest points in spiritual life. God is great and merciful. All praise to Him. I am glad you liked it.

Thanks Emmy for your kind words. The above poem that I wrote was during one of my low points in spiritual life. And you are right that it's only His grace that can strengthen us.

Be blessed.

This poem is very similar to the song Altar and the Door by Casting Crowns. Use a search engine to find it- I think you'll like it. You may also enjoy the song: Somewhere In the Middle by same group.

Hosanna2009,

I encourage you to keep writing poetry about your relationship with God. Over the years you will see a beautiful story unfold as you look back and read what you have written. It truly is a gift.

Also, it would be great if you could find some outlets to read your poetry to others (if you haven't already) since they are so heartfelt and may be a transforming witness to others about the love of God. Youth meetings, prison ministry, family gatherings, hospital visitation ministry, in church - the options are endless. Go for it and keep using that gift God gave you.

Many Blessings

Its a nice poem, but its theology is rooted in an angry God who we must constantly try to please. Of course we should please God, but it's essentially not a matter of iron willpower and determination. In Romans 7 Paul tells of a conflict in terms that clearly show our will itself is fallen and unable to get us to fulfil our inner desires.

Our salvation and subsequent walk with God is only achieved in and through the exchanged life Jesus gives us and living out of that perspective. We must live out of who we are in Christ, not what we must do to be accepted and continue in His favour. That and that alone is the good news of the gospel.

What a beautiful and awesome inspiring poem.
How true to so many of us.
Learning about God's grace and mercy.
Healing us from our hopelessness.
Restoring our souls and leading us to trust Him
Truly He never gives up on us.
He restores and heals us.
This poem is beautiful , I love it.
Thankyou for sharing it.
