Question strange situation

This guy I know was giving away some of his books and I took a few. Anyway, one of the books that I now have has a bunch of messages from others and some of his thoughts in it. My question is, do you think he would want that book back or do guys care about that kind of stuff? If I did tell him that I have it, do you think he would be embarassed about it?
P.S. This is a guy I like

I'd just ask him about it. Just say you noticed the books had some personal notes in them and if he'd want them back. He might not have remembered he wrote things in them.

what she said^^ although you did say you told him so if he didn't say anything like, "[wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth] i didn't mean to get rid of that book" you're probably okay.

I didn't tell him that I have that book. But I'm thinking I might wait until I get to know him a little better, then tell him. Would that be bad?

I don't see the point of getting to know him better. I'd just ask him about the books if you're concerned.

Personally, that just made my creepy meter spike..

It's like hanging onto someones gym kit, to get to know them before you tell them... It's A; slightly strange, and B; makes it more embarrassing to return.

I mean how, would you go about explaining that you've had it all that time, before returning it too them.

I think I've had it for about a month already and I didn't really think anything of it at first. Then I thought if I had written in a book, I would want it back. It's also a good book. Should I just not return it to him? It's already going to be embarassing.

About the book? I don't know if I can. We're sort of friends. What if he asks me if I read the notes? I can't lie and say I didn't but I don't want to tell him that I did either.
