What we need are fighters.... not gay-rights activists.
I think the Commandant knows whats good for morale and what isn't.
Morale improved in the military of countries like Australia, Israel and Great Briton when their armies stopped discriminating against gays and lesbians

No, they loved little boys, not just other men. This information is not hidden, google it.
Sorry….it is a myth that little boys were involved. In Athens the “youth” was a legal adult who had left his parents home and in Sparta soldiers were partnered as one fights harder when fighting next to a loved one.

Let me just tell you guys a story. I was roomates in Iraq with a gay Soldier and I had no problem with it. Matter of fact, he helped me with some of my college classes and some relationship problems I was going through. Just because they prefer men over women, doesn't automatically mean they're going to be sexually aggresive towards someone.
Most of the time, rape committed by men against other men, is by individuals who claim they are heterosexual. Most rapes against men in the military, are committed by individuals identified as heterosexual. Matter of fact, my roomate got a battlefield promotion to SSG for doing such an outstanding job with his duties, so no worries about them being poor Soldiers or Marines.
Besides, Marine generals are reknowned for inserting foot into mouth.

hear, hear! I really wish people would ask US, the people who have to deal with the issue, instead of every Tom, Dick and Harry weighing in with their uninformed opinions.

I can't comment directly on the military. But I have played Rugby for a few decades as a front row forward. About 10 years ago there were changed in the Laws of the game regarding the positions I play becaseu having an unqualified player in any of them can lead to serious injury.
Speaking as a front row forward, I do not see other front row forwards as black or white, gay or straight. I see them as ones who do their job well, and thus do not expose me to additional danger and those who do not do it well and may get me hurt.
Seems to me this is pretty much like the military, except in the military you can add 'or dead'.

Exactly.
People that know. I accept this story. I would also hope that any stories of the opposite would be accepted.
In the 80's, I was stationed in Germany. Overseas off base, those military people that were attracted to the same sex, were more open about thier homosexuality. Some didn't worry about the main gate, and when out of uniform would act as they did off base.
When Out of uniform, they behaived like the traditonal construction workers watching women walking by. Like I said, the military will have to rebrief, and remind everyone what is sexual harrassment.
I knew several people in the military that were gay. Two tried to hit on me. A third stalked me for 3 hours one day. The two were fine Airmen, and I would never had turned them in. The other, I would have probably conspired to cause harm to him, had the stalking not ended(after three hours.)
--You might ask how I know he was stalking me.
He was there:
1.Rec.center comon areas, x3 rooms.
2.rec center bathroom(x2 trips)
3.Cafeteria
4went to NCO club, he was there. Walked back across base(4 blocks) to Post office. It was apparent.
Secretly homosexual does not disrupt the military way of life. Changing it will. It is not impossible to change. But it will not happen over night, with the President ordering it. Long established policies will have to be reworked, and probably many laws.(granted these laws in the civilian side have long sense abandoned, but they have kept the military a step above the rest of the country.)
Reeducating the masses will be required. The homosexual or the straight person will have to look at sexual harrasment from a point of view they hadn't thought of when first exposed. This will prevent both sides from getting in trouble, with this new found freedom.
To you that can't accept homosexuals in the military, If they show interest in you, just make it clear, in non-violent ways that you are not interested. Most of the time, they will move on.(btw;Stalker knew I was straight. I knew stalker was homosexual because of one of the 2 mentioned above, told me.)
I also believe homosexuals should have thier own rooms. Same reason I don't believe unmarried women and men should share rooms. I never roomed with any known gay people. I also believe any straight person should have the right to demand a room without a homosexual in it, I believe to deny them this would be sexual harrasment. Forcing someone to live in the room with someone that might look at them sexually. Forcing the issue would guarantee one of the two would be charged with sexual harrasment, and also I don't believe forcing the issue would be in anyones best interest.

'The organizer's first job is to create the issues or problems, rub raw the resentments of the people, search out controversy, embrace it rather then avoid it, stir up dissatisfaction.
Alinski's rules for the radical.
Words of wisdom: You are not alone, and this is not the end of your story.
There's a weird straight-man theory that seems almost epidemic... That is that gay men are constantly on the lookout for any and all straight men and will, given any opportunity, force sex upon those straight men. You know just like how us straight men oggle any and all females, and will immediately force ourselves on them sexually when the opportunity arises... Oh, wait... No. Not that.
I've never met a gay man who had anything more than a passing interest in straight guys (you know, like you might say to a friend about a girl who walks by, "oh she's hot") - they simply didn't want to waste their time and energy pursuing someone who clearly wasn't interested. Like how most straight guys know better than to chase after a lesbian (although I'm sure I nearly 'turned' one once).
I wonder if the guys you served with in Germany were getting some mixed up 'gaydar' messges from you Billnew? Surely having an open policy toward homosexuals in the military would improve that problem and they wouldn't have to try and guess who might be 'in their league'.
