"Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: ‘ He shall give His angels charge over you,’
and, ‘ Intheirhands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.'
Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the LORD your God." Matthew 4:5-7
Sin is a rejection of God's law.
Suicide is a rejection of God.
Jesus wasn't fooled; don't let the devil's advocates fool you.

Reason: addendum

Mercy trumps judgment.
Everytime.
The Law is fulfilled in love.
Jesus put himself in dangerous situations often. We have a few recorded, such as when he spoke boldly to the crowd and Nazareth and they attempted to throw him off a cliff. Or, when he slept in the storm -- he rebuked the storm, then the apostles.
Jesus was rebuking Satan there because Satan was testing him to see if He really was the Son of God. Satan was doubting and so putting Jesus to the test.
Jesus had the powe to rebuke the storm and he knew that, he was acting within his know capabilities and at the end he knew what had to be done but still did not really want to do it becuase he was human. We have to know our own strengths and weaknesses and what gifts God has given us and to what extent to use thoes gifts, being a marter for the sake of being a marter is foolishness. Christianity is not seseme street like you make it out to be it is actually very complex otherwise it would not be writen in a book that is over 1000 pages.
Huh? Please refrain from personal attacks. Jesus had the faith to walk on air, but why should He have done that just to prove to Satan He is the Son of God? That is called putting God to the test.
No "sesame street" about it.
Feel free to critique what I said... but misquoting people to prove a point doesn't help anything.
I have no problem understanding the difference between faith in God in dangerous situations and not. Pretty simple thing.
Suicide, clearly, is a sin. And it is lack of faith.
But that does not mean just because someone did not have perfect faith that therefore they are damned forever.
Hence, what I was saying about people having compassion.

Suicide is not a good thing I will agree with you there which is why I am rebuking you on another tread where a guy is contemplating it because of his sitaution and you are telling him he should just keep doing what he is doing and expect different results which is the definition of insantiy. Im sorry that this nation leaves men with no other way out than to leave the nation but that is how gestopo child support enforement has gotten, he may be able to talk to a lawyer to figure out ways to keep more of his money but its a long shot, if all of his legal avenues to get a reasonable support order are used up then he has to do something else. This world is getting more and more corrupt so there are less and less places to go, even in duby they have debtors prisons, the battle of armageddon is the only way to squelch the corruption that is going on, the only other way is if the US military were to invoke a ku (sorry not the right spelling) they have enough might to restore order but who knows what there agenda would be.
When you take your own life you are rejecting God's will and saying to God: "I no longer believe or trust that you will save me."
"I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned" John 5:24

My main question is: As a true Christian, if you commit suicide, are you given a one-way ticket to hell?
I've done quite a bit of online researching here and there. I've also asked my pastors at my church for their point of view. Of course, they all said "YOU GO TO HELL!" Based on basic knowledge of the scripture and the simple research I've done, I believe that if I were to kill myself at this moment, I would go into heaven. Committing suicide is an act of selfishness. Selfishness is a sin. A sin can be forgiven.
Please share some of your answers to this extremely controversial question. I really am curious, too curious for my own good.
Having spent time working for a UK charity caled the samaritans, where I dealt with hundreds of suicidal people, I cannot bring myself to believe that suicides go to hell.
What I will say is that Suicide is a sin, the 10 commandments blatantly say "thou shalt not commit murder", and I would assume that would extend to murder of the self. However, its not the unforgivable sin, which is blasphemy against the holy spirit (gospel of Mark)
However, consider Sampson, who tore down the columns of the temple and killed himself and, in doing so, killed his enemies. Sampson is listed as one of the heroes of the faith in the book of Hebrews (I think). Plus the Bible says "there is no condemnation for those in Christ". Christ covers our sin, we don't do it ourselves.
So I sould say that, while suicide is never the answer (having tried it 3 times myself, I know this is the case) and its incredibly foolish, I don't think theres anything stopping someone who's committed suicide going to Heaven.
There are so many reasons that people consider suicide. Very few of the reasons are random and sin-based.
We like to presume that everyone is born fully functional and "normal."
Medications with side effects of suicidal thoughts and impulses:
Allergy/Asthma medications (with other "neuropsychiatric events") Malaria prevention with mefloquine Antidepressants, especially with paroxetine (all have FDA warnings on label) ADHD meds with atomoxetine Anxiety and insomnia meds - benzodiazepines Anticonvulsantsfor epilepsy, migraines, and bipolar disorder -
carbamazepine, felbamate, gabapentin, lamotrigine, levetiracetam, oxcarbazepine, pregabalin, tiagabine, topiramate, valproate, and zonisamide.
Antidepressants for those with bipolar disorder carries additional risk.
You know the story of Samson -- he went down in a blaze of glory. It is not for us to decide what God will do when each person faces Him, but there are several references to suicidal thoughts in the Bible, not presented as though it is a sin, but a result of unbearable circumstances.
It is a very sad thing for friends and family to live through, knowing someone had come to such a point of despair that they didn't feel they could live.
As children of God, we will not go to heaven until God says it's time, until your purpose, and mine, on earth has been fulfilled. He decides. We must all respect and honor that!

A sin is not covered by the blood of Jesus if it's willful. (If you know it's wrong and you are choosing to do it.)
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from ALL unrighteousness.
HEB 10:26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, 27 but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.
John 6:37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise castout.
Besides, the act of killing yourself is REBELLING against God. He gives life and only He can take it away in HIS own time. If it's His will that you live then you have to live. You are going against the will of God when you yourself interrupt your life which God wants you to keep living. And Jesus said: NOT those who call me Lord will enter heaven but those who DO THE WILL of my Father. And you sure won't be doing the will of the Father if you kill yourself.
Romans 14:4 Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own Master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.
The prophet Elijah felt suicidal and Jonah and Job and Jesus comforted and healed them.Jesus understood their pain and did not condemn them for feeling this way.
MAT 7:21 * "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
28Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? 29Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent
And also, this life is not in vain. God is using this life to prepare you for the next one. And if you didn't get through the "full training" "preparation" whatever it maybe, and you end it prematurely, you won't be ready to enter and therefore you won't be able to enter.
Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
Mathew 11
28Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
God knows and cares intimately for us and invites us to come for healing and rest.Jesus makes all things new. Jesus gives strength to the weak and restyores our soul.Jesus is our Good Shepherd who leads us to still waters and restores our soul.Jesus is the wonderful Counsellor and the Great physician and nothing is impossible for Jesus who heals the broken hearted and gives us hope and peace and joy.
When we are to broken and hurting and confused and hopeless and weak to want to live for our self or even our loved ones, it is time to live for God and trust in Jesus for strength and liberty and hope and healing.
The we become a living sacrifice, and watch what our loving and compassionate Saviour and God will do.
