"As You sent Me into the world, I also sent them into the world. "And for them I set Myself apart, so that they too might be set apart in truth. "And I do not pray for these alone, but also for those believing in Me through their word, so that they all might be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You, so that they too might be one in Us, so that the world might believe that You have sent Me. "And the esteem which You gave Me I have given them, so that they might be one as We are one, "I in them, and You in Me, so that they might be perfected into one, so that the world knows that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me. (Joh 17:18-23 The Scriptures 1998+) But also for those other then the disciples as in bold. Does that mean only those who heard from the disciples are the very last ones? I wouldn't think so. That would carry on through the generations of believers who also matured in the Faith.
There has been an interest in Messianic Judaism bubbling away in the back of my mind for a while now... It began with a desire to investigate the Jewish roots of Christianity, and then I watched a documentary which touched on Messianic Judaism, which increased my interest further.
My question is: What is the general attitude and practice of Messianic Jews in regards to the manifestations/gifts of the Spirit (tongues, prophecy, healings, words of knowledge, etc.)? Are they believed to be in operation today? And, if so - is this more of an intellectual acknowledgement, or do Messianic believers tend to actually practice the gifts and demonstrate God's power during services or in events connected with the community?
Thanks for any answers!
For me, and I am only speaking for myself, If the apostolic writings teach it clearly as being something for the church then I believe it.
I am biased in some respects as although I am a sabbath keeper (amongst other aspects of a Torah lifestyle), I also attend a 'normal' church on sundays which is thoroughly charismatic/pentecostal in its outlook.

Is that Chesterfield MO? I too believe in the clear teachings of biblical God being the same today and for always, and does require His followers to also stand on the same foundation. I too attend a variety of groups/churches who have gems in the spiritual walk, that I receive the blessings of fellowship with. Our synagogue is very biblical studious in its services to its congregation. It doesn't stop the members from experiencing or presenting a spiritual life.

"Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak from Myself. But the Father who stays in Me does His works. "Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, otherwise believe Me because of the works themselves. "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he shall do also. And greater works than these he shall do, because I go to My Father. "And whatever you ask in My Name, that I shall do, in order that the Father might be esteemed in the Son. (Joh 14:10-13 The Scriptures 1998+) I believe we can be a vehicle for works by Our Father as Yeshua said we would do even greater works. My 2 cents. Tag

God hasn't changed; He is the same yesterday, today, and forever more. If those things were in operation back then, they still can be today. Personally, however, I don't believe that speaking in tongues is how most Christians believe it to be. Bibically, I don't believe they mesh. Paul tells us not to covert to speak in tongues but to prophecy (and by that I don't believe he means coming up with new things. One who tells others about the Bible still prophecies). God gives His people gifts in His timing when they need it for His work. I love it when the Bible says that 'the Spirit came upon them' because you know that something supernatural is about to take place. And it always has a purpose. It is not something that they just do. I know many who think that by professing these things it proves that they are right with God. We show our faith by our works and how we live. Not so much by what gift of ministry we have been given.'For not the hearers of the Law are just before God but the DOERS of the Law shall be justified.' 'For faith without works is dead.'The gifts of the Spirit are love, joy, peace, longsuffering, temperence, meekness, and so on. They are the gifts that show that God is working in us.

For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.

Apparently there are four Chesterfields in the US - but we live in the original one
The majority of Messianics who we know are also very charasmatic and so yes, they and we, do very much believe in the Gifts of the Spirit. The last few "get togethers" we have had have been full of prophecy and words of knowledge.

I personally believe that a New Pentecost will come through Jewish believers to many ppl, His born by the Spirit covenant ppl will be filled with His mighty power again, as at the begining & will be manifested before many.
