That we too often place material goods (our swine) before the well being of our neighbor.
I like that added insight to the story. Preachers usually talk about the swine being unclean, almost as though Jesus was killing two birds with one stone. But there was a sad farmer that day, who lost his herd! (What is a group of swine called? A mound?)
Your dream does point out a strong attachment to the equipment -- computers tend to be a lifeline for us these days. I'm sure we would all react the same way.
Being laid off brings so much uncertainty, and it is known to bring unnecessary guilt.
In this dream I was sitting in the basement of my house
An inner sanctum you don't usually allow people to enter. Not necessarily a refuge for you, but a place to store things you don't think of or need often. Or to hide what doesn't need to be seen by the public and friends.
with a women I didn't know. She told me if I called one of her friends he could help me get in contact with a place I could find some work at ( I'm laid off and have been searching for a job).
A friendly offer for assistance and relief. You were probably delighted that you didn't need to rely completely on your own strength. In a dream, that might be a little release -- your brain reminding itself there are other ways out of the dilemma.
I called the guy and he came over.
You took initiative and accepted outside help, despite risks of unknowns.
To make a long story short and to leave out some of the minor and probably pointless details I will just say that he tried to walk off with my computer and IPOD.
You trusted someone who claimed to help, and he took the only tools you had that would help you get ahead, help you apply for jobs. It was not just a painting or silver set that he took, but something that had almost become a part of you.
In the swine story, the pigs were a part of the farmer. They had not made him money yet, but he had invested a lot in them, so his family's future would be stable. (Hopefully there were pigs floating in the sea he could gather back up.)
When I learned that this was happening I was filled with a murderous rage.
Sorry to analyze, when you already had your interpretation written out. This might have been your brain taking its opportunity to not be so decent about unemployment, since displaying this in public is so counter-productive.
It could also show insight to a larger problem going on in the world, where people's core resources and lifelines are taken away, and they rise up to get them back. It could be an opportunity for prayer for them.
I ran and got the rifle under my . I knew it had a trigger lock on it and the ammo was stored seperatly and that he would be gone before I could get it ready. because of that I resolved then to club the guy to death
with the rifle rather then shoot him.
If this were my dream, it would be my attempt to be less directly violent, not so blatant and defined. But in truth it is more violent, less targeted. Clubbing allows a person to vent more, but also incurs sloppy peripheral damage. And as you say, your rifle was not ready to shoot.
This makes me think the dream might be about more than your state of life, but symbolic of people whose recourse has been disabled. When they rise up to take a stand against their rights and property being taken from them, they have no method of action in place, even though they had secured that long ago.
When i walked up stairs
Ascending... effort
I saw him set both the computer and the Ipod on the kitchen table.
A place where resources are shared with an invited group.
Think of UN, EU, WHO, World Bank, denominations, etc. Your computer and IPOD can represent technology in general, not just possessions.
He made some lame excuse as to why he had it there that I didn't really believe but the rage left me and I made it appear like I bought his story because I felt mercy for him... then he left.
The equipment ended up back in your hands -- that's a good thing. But your ownership of it had been violated. Your trust level and sense of security would not be the same.
Two other people that were in the kitchen with me told me I was stupid to buy the story
You had chosen to not overreact, but to encourage peace. Your self-restraint kept things at a safe level, but others wanted you to stir up additional trouble. You could have

and that I should call the police or make him pay for what he did.
Others that could have participated in the theft had chosen not to, and defended your rights. They did not go after him themselves, but encouraged you to.
Then I woke up.
God's voice is full of parallels. Jesus speaks in parables. Messages in our dreams often start with what we recognize and feel, and are applied to situations we don't completely understand. God can shed light on a subject through emotion, so we don't just understand the facts, but understand the pain.
I have not checked the news on Sri Lanka lately, but it's worth praying for the people there. Even if your dream was about loving your computer.
