I wanted to point out to Canukian how wrong he is to assume Islam is homogenous, and to remind him that Islam was at one point the paragon of civilization, and the good present of Christianity doesn't excuse the bad past, just as the good past of Islam doesn't excuse the bad present.

Pakistan and India were the same country till the UK sepearated them. Pakistan was given to the Muslims and India was given to Hindus and everyone else. They did this without having a proper plan in place for handling the two state solution, and you still have fighting about it today.

I've seen it debated on TV. Essentially christians spent an hour attacking Muslim clerics with all sorts of bile and hatred, while the Muslims answered calmly, with respect, and with reference to the peaceful parts of the Quran, which they, and most other Muslims, follow. How does this fit in with your idea of Islam?
