No my brother I'm not going to argue with you concerning your gift however I do believe that if you have received two sets of instructions and they both compliment each other then the best answer for you is not to go.
Remember your mother has your best interest at heart and she only wants the best for you; weighing everything equal continuing with your college education would be the best choice.
If this is a gift that has been given from God it will only get better, especially when doing those things that are right in His sight. Sometimes we can get pushed into something before it is our time and that puts our life that God has designed for us off track and it is only with unnecessary trouble and hardship do we find our way back to Him.
Listen to your mother and your pastor and follow their guidance. Doing so now will prevent the unnecessary from happening later. I'm quite sure that while you complete your college degree you will continue to perfect your gift and be even more better when your next opportunity presents itself and by your obedience I have faith that it will.
Yes, bro. I took that into consideration. Just like what klasvaakie said, this thing takes dedication and talent, and most of all, it takes a strong spirit molded by God to go out there and save souls.
I was offered by my pastor to train in teaching Sunday school for now and get stronger spiritually and wait for another opportunity.
But then again, I haven't made a decision yet. I just can't say no when these guys (the band) are actually skilled (and when I skilled, it means skilled skilled) musicians. And on top of that, they're saved christians. People like those are rare.
But I'll keep praying about it and I'm asking that you pray for me as well. Thank you so much for the advice. I really appreciate it. See you in heaven.
So.... I went to my pastor and he basically said the same thing. He said that he's got some cautionary red flags about it. He used Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and other musicians that grew up in church but ended up being miserable because of using their talent for themselves. He told me to evaluate things first: Is the band really for worshipping the Lord? Is it really a ministry of saving souls? Is it really a band build to give thanks and praise to God. I know he cares about me and he's doing his job to keep the devil from taking my soul, and I'm thankful for that, but I still have questions that need to be answered.
Elvis chose to play for himself, BUT I'M CHOOSING TO PLAY FOR THE LORD. Why won't God just say to me in a loud voice what I should do?

If you're going to argue with me that Rock music is the song for the devil, please don't bother to convince me that it is. God's got different soldiers for different battles. -- Chris Clonts of Decyfer Down.
Christians naturally express their love in whatever they do: be it as a janitor, a lawyer, rock musician, or anything else. Stating something is purely evil just because it is something strange to someone is absurd. Elvis was known for singing religious songs, though, wasn't he? I wouldn't say he did what he did and was doing it for evil...
He was a great singer.
(I don't particularly like Elvis, just making a point.)
Music enriches our lives. Truly.
As for God not telling you what to do in a loud voice: you have your choices. I don't tell my kids what career to go into. They find a lot by discovering it on their own.
What I have found in my career is my own faith opens doors and allows things to happen. That doesn't mean I don't have to try against failure. But the effort itself builds up faith if only because it forces us to continually believe against all adversity.
And I have found that literally works. Conversely, when I have no ambition, and no faith in going in a direction... nothing happens.

Indeed, faith opens doors for an individual. Everything you say makes sense. Thanks bro.
Doors that God opens can't be shut. Don't let anyone push you into anything with that take it or you might not get anything better bit. Besides, if your pastor any everyone you know says it's a bad idea, it's probably a bad idea.

Yeah. I am 39... and have seen this in practice in my career. I always considered a career just a 'thing to do to pay the bills', but because I worked in security... God gave me something more meaningful to do. And I believed in certain directions, and because of that belief had outstanding success.
I suppose others saw it as brains or genetics or something. No.
That said, it can be hard. You have to keep believing even against every obstacle.
If you have light, and I think you do, you can show it. Public work can really help do that. 'Let your light shine before men, so they can praise God', and remember what Jesus said about lighting a lamp and putting it in a place people can see it.
If you genuinely believe you have such a light, then the faith is easy: why would God prevent such a success?
That kind of career can be very hard, but on the other hand, believing the impossible through God can make it easy. A good journey. Plot to your story.
Above all, love your audience... because that faith from God goes hand in hand with that love. Do it for them and your faith can move mountains.
Things you might want to consider, You claimed that the musicians are a tool to bring you close to God. Jesus is the only path to the Father, He does not bring you close.
You either go to the Father or you miss. You are also looking and comparing yourself to
dead creation. Only the Father knew the hearts of Elvis and Cash. Your only concern
is about yourself and your salvation, regardless of your goals. So go to the Father
and ask Him. I would not seek the advice or counsel of creation on this one.
Yet as creation I am giving such advice. Go to the Father.
