Hi all I'm brand new to the site but fairly new to being a christian. I have one problem I'm a metalhead, i love everything about metal but i am shunned from my last church for the music i listened to. What im wondering is if there are people out there, wondering like groups wise, that are like me in my musical tastes or do i have to give up my style for my Lord. I mean i listen to christian metal too. But w/e hope to hear from ya'll

Hey Zach, welcome to CF .. I'm not a big metal fan, but I believe Christian metal bands have been around since the 1970's. My tastes run toward Jazz and Classical, but I've appreciated some of the music and lyrics I've heard from bands like Stryper.
If you listen to secular metal, then I can't comment on the lyrics and you'd have to be the judge of whether listening to that is beneficial for you as a Christian. I was a big Jimi Hendrix fan when I was younger and I still love his music, but since becoming a Christian, I've had to reconsider which Hendrix songs/videos I will listen to/watch.
BTW, if you don't mind me asking, what kind of church did you go to? Did they really "shun" you because of your musical tastes?
Yours and His, David

Listen to what the Holy Spirit tells you and do as he says. If something is offending to him he will let you know about it, I can promise you that.
There are still people who quote the pre-60's religious attack on "rock & roll" to me. Fact is, Scripture doesn't have a lot to say about musical style.
That's a good thing actually. Ancient musical style is nothing like anything we have since orchestral music developed in the Renaissance (?I think).
Even Gregorian Chants would be too modern for Scripture.
So -- if it leads you to do something wrong, it's not good. If it doesn't, the musical style itself is not a black & white matter. Romans 14 / 1 Cor 8 applies: you stand just fine before your God.

To us, O LORD, belongs open shame, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against you.

I listen to all kinds of music... the metal I listen to is more of an 80's type metal/melodic metal, hard rock... Christian metal artists I like are Bloodgood, Holy Soldier, Ken Tamplin, Lovewar, Guardian, Sacred Warrior, Bride, Barren Cross, Angelica, Novella, Die Happy, Eternal Ryte, Red Sea, Mastedon, Narnia, Audio A etc... so "hello there " from a fellow metal lover... there is really nothing inherently evil about metal/rock music... just as Larry Norman said long ago "why should the devil have all the good music?"
blessings,

There's Christian metal. I find a lot in regular alternative rock music, myself, but it doesn't tend to have negative lyrics.
Regular heavy metal definitely tends to overdose on negative lyrics.
Some stuff will offend anyone. The main danger is when people think you are sinning and you are not... so they get confused. Then they start not knowing what is right and what is wrong sometimes. Unfortunately, life is full of matters some can not handle because of a weak conscience.

I took my daughters to see Demon Hunter (Living Sacrifice, Oh Sleeper, The Famine, and Advent were playing too). My youngest daughter said to me on the way home, "Dad, they all looked so scary, but they were all so nice!"

"No matter how "right" you may be on various points, you must be diplomatic also. The first and important thing is not "rightness" at all, but Christian love and harmony. Most "crazy converts" have been "right" in the criticisms that led to their downfall; but they were lacking in Christian love and charity and so went off the deep end, needlessly alienating people around them and finally finding themselves all alone in their rightness and self-righteousness. Don't you follow them!..."

"Personal opinions have no role in ministry of any kind. When we represent the Church, then we ought only say and do what the Church has asked us to do. All else is wasted energy and an opportunity for sin. It is when we lapse into personal opinions, even when we dress them in the language of the Church, that conflict will arise."
