The Vatican newspaper warned on Friday that Halloween is tied to occultism and is anti-Christian. Hence, should Christians avoid celebrating Halloween?
Halloween is what you make of it. I don't think anyone's supposed to tell their kids not to go trick-or-treating because a vatican paper tells us that it's occultist or whatever else you do on Halloween. Then again if we don't take it as just fun but some kind of occultist service it's another thing completely. I don't think it's an issue for most americans though. You can correct me if I'm making false assumptions. Of course if you feel it's necessary to give a tribute to the original meaning of the day, such as remembering your lost loved ones, then go for it. I think those two traditions don't close each other out...
Besides, I don't think that the Vatican really is so much against Halloween. I guess they just go the strict way make sure people listen to them or something.

For the end of those things is death. But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I agree with this. I wouldn't prevent kids from going out and getting candy or wearing a nice costume, but I would never display a skeleton, ghost or witch as decorations and for the older kids, as long as I had say so they couldn't wear a witch or devil costume.

(almost) 12 yr old boy - We made him put on at least a Jedi cape, though he just wanted to wear regular clothes and get free candy.
We told him no costume - no candy.

This is an answer I've often gone back and fourth on. So long as they are old enough to know it is just pretend and not to glorify evil, I'm not sure I consider it any worse then dressing up for a movie role.
