Is it a sin to smoke marijuana?

If my friend has a cannabis card, which makes it legal in your state, is it a sin?

I feel that it is natural and God gave it to us. Why would God create it if it was not made for this purpose. Hemp and Marijuana are not the same plant either. Also if you use a vaporizer you cause your lungs zero harm. So is it still a sin? My heart feels that it is not?

What are your opinions?

Okay... we are *not* under law, everything is permissable, not everything is beneficial. We can get in serious trouble with God if we do something bad, but we do not live under a white list/black list system of static checks and balances. Life is dynamic and fluid, what is in the heart that matters.

Laws can be interpreted endlessly.

Perspective matters: what is right for you may be wrong for someone else.

There are, obviously, some gross sins, but even some of those are hard to say, because situations can be dynamic. For instance, murder is bad, but killing as a soldier or cop would not be, if it is lawful.

We are born with minds and are expected to use them. Further, Christians have the heavenly mind of Christ.

We do not have a calling to police others, though we do have consciences and some things are clearly bad which we can judge on.

Why would marijuana be sinful to use if other far more serious drugs used for pain relief or psychiatric care are not? Well, in some cases it is simply because we want to be law (of the *land*, big difference) abiding citizens. But, where one has a lawful right to use it -- that is a Heavenly right too.

So where is the confusion?

Still, it could offend some with weaker consciences, so I wouldn't promote it to them without a very good reason.

In general, drugs are a crutch, in my opinion. And I would watch relying too much on any crutch, it can make us lose focus on grace from God.

Between God and you I dont think it is a sin. Like Freeport said there are alot more dangerous and stronger drugs that people take for prescription that are alot worse than grass. And as far as it tempting you with earthly desires and all that such I guess it depends on you, it didnt do anything like that to me when I smoked. I can tell you this for sure though, no BS, no questions asked, 100% truth. If you smoke weed ILLEGALLY it is a sin. I know this from personally experience. Since three days ago I was a pot smoker and I did it illegally, recently I prayed to God about whether or not it was ok and to answer me. My answer was in the form of the police busting my house and being charged with 2 felonies and a misdemeanor and thrown in county jail for a entire day. It was blown way out of proportion and I will likely get all of it cleared off or at least deferred but I can tell you right now that it is not worth it. Stay away from it unless you legally need it. We are supposed to obey the laws of the land in order to represent Christ in the best way possible even if we know it doesnt harm us or anyone else. I felt compelled to respond directly too this considering what has happened recently and I pray to God that you and anyone reading this will learn from what happened to me. Praying for you man and please keep my family, fiance, friends, and lastly me in your prayers as well! God bless!

its a drug...how does this sound...yea that christian gets high or does drugs with his friends...as a police officer i would arrest your butt for having it on you...even if it might be not "Against your state" it is still against federal law so you can still be arrested by federal agents and federal officers...it smells so nasty as well...its not even classy...God created a plant and people are misusing and abusing it..its just like how God created sex and are abusing that..just because its not a crime against the state...is it still a crime in God's kingdom yes...as well weed and other drug substances can cause you to experience demonic influences and manifestation and hallucination...do you want to go on a demon ride..these things alter your mind and leave you targetable to the enemy.

Does it honor God's temple- you? Does it do damage to your lungs, brain, or any other part of your body? Is it against the laws of the country? If yes, then yes, it's a sin.

"Offense" is something TAKEN. No one MAKES anyone feel anything. IF we are offended by something, we CHOSE to be offended by it...

But I think that OFTEN, people confuse discussion with fighting. Disagreeing is not personal, it is not an attack, it is not disrespectful or flaming, it is not offensive per se. It ONLY means, "I disagree." Nothing more. Nothing less. It suggests NO emotional response whatsoever.

NO ONE is mandated to agree with anyone.

Someone made the point it is against federal law. (I actually recall, now, on reflection, Obama was saying not to bust end users but to go after distributors. It seems foolish to me.)

I am generally sympathetic for people, where they are following Jesus and being merciful in their heart... but a lot of Christians follow a religion of condemnation and so they live by a far stricter standard.

Dependency on any kind of drug is not being dependent on God. Obviously, people have varying levels of faith. God is gracious to the humble.

God has the strings on everything: people who condemn someone for doing drugs for their problems, then themselves rely on them obviously are hypocrites... they are thinking creation is in control and God does not see them, forgetting how bad their life can go and how God is the one in control of that.

The problem is simply people looking to find a high from some plant, as opposed to God. With psychiatric meds it is actually far worse - except for critical cases - as people get addicted to that stuff and believe lies about themselves which trap them into a life of slavery to unbelief. When more serious problems come up they find they do not have the store of faith to heal or save them.

A big part of the later problem is it is far more subtle and complicated, but as much as a lie... as those who involve themselves in more simple deceptions.

But, God is gracious to the humble and gives allowances to those merciful in their hearts.

Pharisees... no. They are locked in a self-repeating cycle of condemnation, rejecting grace and power though having a form of godliness.

No it isn't a sin. But it's like drinking. It's not a sin to drink, despite what some want you to believe. However being a drunkard is a problem. If someone smokes pot for a medical issue then there is no problem with it. If they smoke pot simply to get high then there is a problem.

The only issue is that it is against the law and we are expected to obey the law. Unless you are in a state that permits it. As far as your body being a temple of the Holy Spirit, true it is but the warning is referring to sexual immorality not anything and everything you can possibly do.

Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
- 1 Corinthians 6:18-20

It's funny because in the United States the very men we hold up as being great Americans and our "Founding Fathers" all grew and like the other aristocrats of their day very likely used marijuana. And no it wasn't just "hemp" for fiber. The history of marijuana criminalization in the United States is actually pretty fascinating.

What is wrong to do or not is relative according to people's own standards. This is very important. Very Pharisaical people are extremely limited in what they can do, and are continually sinning.

Important thing to notice.

Very critical thing to understand. God gives grace to the humble.

Someone pointed out it is against federal law even in states that promote it. IMO, that should be worked out. I do not smoke marijuana nor even have the desire to... but would far rather marijuana be used for pain and psych problems then the utter foul stuff out there people are relying on.
