Jesus is clear: Matthew 7:12 "So in everything, do to others as you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets." Are you able to love your neighbor as yourself enough to forgive them from your heart?
Read the parable of the unmerciful servant Matthew 18:21-35 which applies to each and every christian under CHRISTS grace. "I cancelled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. Shouldn't you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?" Jesus warns us of what will happen if we do not love our neighbor as ourself with love, mercy and forgiveness from the heart.
I don't think many, even Christians realize that forgiveness that comes from the heart is the kind that forgets the wrong as well. Because, time and time again I hear them say "I can forgive, I just can't forget". If you cannot forget the wrong done to you, believe me when I say that you have not forgiven from your heart.
The words from the apostle Paul come to mind: Ephesians 4:30-32 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave you.
Forgiveness from the heart is the kind that forgets all wrongs as well. Because through the grace of Christ HIS forgiveness remembers no more the wrongs done in the sight of GOD.

We are still humans dealing with human sins, so forgiving can eventually lead to forgetting the wrong done to us, but we still need to be wise enough not to be a door mat for someone else to continue to hurt us. With time our forgiving can lead to forgetting, but sometimes the pain from being wronged can be devastating, and take a long time to forget. Holding a grudge though, will only lead to us becoming bitter, so it's important for us to make a conscience decision to forgive so the wound can begin to heal.
May God bless you Natalie,
Steve |

I will always be a door mat because my Lord tells me to be.
If my brother sins against me and I bring that sin to his attention and he seeks forgiveness I will forgive 77 times 7 times (ie I will not keep count). If I neglect to bring it to his attention yet still forgive him am I not showing the love of Christ Jesus in doing so (He died for the sins of the whole world)? I am told that what sins I forgive here will be forgiven in heaven, why would I not want my brother to be forgiven? What love is there in unforgiveness? Matthew 18:34 - 35 In anger his master turned him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed. "This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart." Matthew 5: 43 - 48 "You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy'. But I tell you; Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the rigteous and unrighteous. If you love only those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect."

I am not were you are in my walk with Christ Jesus, I would always advise someone in an abusive relationship, that they should take a stand against it, not just forgive and forget. |

I have been in an abusive relationship. God does not want husbands to beat their wives. Yes! I am no longer in that relationship since the abuse began to flow over to our children. Have I forgiven the man and forgotten his sins? Yes! I have no choice but to, in order for GOD's healing power to work. Everything I've gone through has come to GLORY to GOD in the end. Praise be to HIM whom loves us and shapes us as a potter with clay. He strengthens our walk with Christ through all trials so that our faith which is more precious than gold can shine through the darkness of this evil world. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | | | |
