UNITED STATES OF AMERICA: The 9th Greatest Country on Earth.

Cannons and fire-arms are cruel and damnable machines; I believe them to have been the direct suggestion of the Devil. If Adam had seen in a vision the horrible instruments his children were to invent, he would have died of grief. -- Martin Luther
That's right! Number 9. Even America's cap (Canada) is higher! Oh, what to do!
Why, let's continue the superfluous, childish political dissent, worship the dollar through neoliberalistic economic philosophies, trust corporations to work out our best interest for health care (always trust the businessman!), and keep the neoconservative fiction of a perpetual enemy image everliving (thereby corrupting our sense of safety).
Sounds like a plan for number 9.

I'm wondering, is there any such list the US tops?

Man must evolve for all human conflict a method which rejects revenge, aggression and retaliation. The foundation of such a method is love.

Advocates of capitalism are very apt to appeal to the sacred principles of liberty, which are embodied in one maxim:
The fortunate must not be restrained in the exercise of tyranny over the unfortunate.
"no man can serve two masters; ye cannot serve both God and mammon." - Bible (Matthew 6:24)

Actually, it sounds like a plan for some place much further down. Eventually.

[Oh, right. I forgot. When one is #1, one has already arrived... ]
Back to serious. I think Gunnar Wetterberg's proposal is quite interesting, worth consideration, certainly.
Nyckelpositioner i EU-kommissionen kunde lättare komma inom räckhåll. Fördelarna med ett enande är i dag så stora att politikerna bör göra allvar av en ny Kalmarunion, skriver samhällsdebattören och författaren Gunnar Wetterberg inför Nordiska rådets session i Stockholm den 27–29 oktober.
The quick & dirty translation:
"The five Nordic countries should merge into a new union"
Societal commentator Gunnar Wetterberg: A Nordic federation could provide the Nordic countries an international position of power. A Nordic Union would become the world's tenth largest economy, significantly ahead of Russia and Brazil.

I would certainly support such a union. I'm not TOO sure of the EU, but a Scandinavian Union could really be a winner IMHO. In fact I have been thinking along those lines for a few years. I think it could be a real possibility if the idea just got enough hold in our individual governments. We're very similar nations in many respects. We'd be stronger together than separate. (For the record, Americans, I am not a potential supporter of a union such as this for the purpose of increased military strength)

*kröhöm* Nordic Union *kröhöm*
I think the Nordic countries have "been in this together" for so long -- 1,000 to 1,500 years -- so it would not be such a big deal to ditch our independencies for a closer Nordic Union. Last century was a century of independence movements and nation-states, whereas the 21st century will be for transnational unions: BRIC, EU etc.

Y'all should bring back the Vikings. The longboats and the helmets were, like, way cool...

Good thing is, our young "braves" still know, after all these centuries, how to properly "go berserk", like every Friday and Saturday night and all summer weekends. Yup.
