(John 14:13 TNIV) And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
(John 14:14 TNIV) You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

Yes, indeed. For those of you who don't know what that means, it means to ask for things that are in Christ's character: in Bible times, someone's name was equivalent to their character and will.

You're not alone. Jesus' disciples asked Jesus too. Jesus gave them an outline example prayer, we call it the Lord's Prayer.
Different people have pointed out its main themes, probably the easiest mnemonic to remember it is ACTS:
Adoration - Praising God's attributes and character, Confession - Confession of our sins to God, Thanksgiving - Thanksgiving for the blessings we have received from Him and Supplication - Petitions for the blessings we need.
In addition, God accepts the earnest prayers of His people. He'll fix what we do wrong.
Hope it helps.

Thank you heymikey80, Godschild87, Frosty One, freeport, Mobiosity, and toolite for all of your suggestions on how to pray. Sometimes I don't quite understand what I'm reading in the bible and when I talk to God it's pretty much jumbled. It sounds to me that key is to say what's on my heart to God. I'm guessing since God knows what's already in my heart, that no matter which way I verbalize it, He will understand what I'm trying to say. Thank you all for listening.

A barrel of monkeys is not fun at all.........in fact, the thought is quite horrifying.

God knows that we all have different needs and express ourselves in different ways. As you continue to walk with God, your prayers will change depending on specific situations you encounter. I personally found great joy when I learned to also include in my prayers praise and thanks to him for all he has done for me throughout the day.
