I'm truly sorry you feel this way about your parents, but I can not say that I feel the same way. And my dis don't feel that way about me and my husband. Maybe your parents built these fantasy characters up to be too important. For us, Santa is not the focus of Christmas, Christ is. The Easter Bunny is not the focus of Easter, Christ is. The tooth fairy isn't the focus of a lost tooth, growing up is. So there is no lie, no hypocrisy, no reason for mistrust in our home. Nor was there any when I was growing up or in my husband's childhood home.
I still think that people who make a big deal about their parents lying to them about Santa have much deeper issues to resolve than a fantasy character is responsible for.

Then I am really sorry for you. Your parents were letting you be a kid and if you find that hard to accept then you are the one that needs to get things right. The bible states to forgive seventy times seven. It looks to me that you have not done this once. I dont mean this in a harsh way but that is the way you protray it. I am tired of christisans knocking on holidays and using the bible as a bat to make it sound like people are doing wrong. God is not that way. He understands us and understand what we do and believe. People are turning away, I believe, because we take the fun out of being christians. I have no proble with christmas, holloween or any of the other holidays. It is how you take them, how people try to make them more than they are. When I was young the church I attended had a haunted house, at the church, with most of the decons and their wifes acting in it. It was a hoot. The church had a great time but that was all it was a great time of fellowship. But now at the same church this would be a no no. Lord forbid we do anything like this. The joy, the fellowship has left the chuches because of being to self righous. This is my option and I am sorry if I have offended anyone but this is the way I see it. Also back then people cared about each other. They would go out of their way to help, but you don't find that in many churches now.

My ex-wife and I told our kids Santa was a legend from the beginning, and taught them the real story (or what we thought was the real story - I don't really know) about the bishop Nicholas who took care of the poor children in his city. However, I don't look down on anyone who lets their kids believe in the legend. Personal preference in my opinion. Their mother was worried that if we lied about Santa, they'd eventually think we lied about Jesus. I went along with it, and it turned out ok, except for my 5 year old telling a friend about it and we got yelled at by his mom.

I'm just wondering who on earth you could possibly trust.
Perhaps it is time to accept personal responsibility for your life rather than blaming your parents for you problems.

be careful about assumptions. My parents told us Santa was fantasy the whole time and I don't ever remember them lying to me about anything. I trust them and am thankful to them for teaching me unwavering honesty. It has enhanced all my relationships--especially my marriage of 14 years. I feel that most people don't even know what life is like without lying because they have always lived in an environment where "little white lies" are ok. Any marriage counselor will tell you how detrimental that is to a marriage and is one of the major reasons for high divorce rates.

I think you're right, steve4.truth. There are many people who think "little white lies" are okay and acceptable. But even the littlest white lie will separate someone from God. And no matter how they try to justify a lie, it's still a lie and still sin. There should be no compromise in a Christian's life.
