Oh, and Vista IS a bad word next to Windows 7.
I've no idea who created it, but it has been all over the Internet for years that's all.

And No Vista isn't a bad word next to Windows 7, I haven't had any real problems with either one.

Though I didn't run Vista in 64Bit mode, only because I didn't have it in 64 Bit mode.

Isaiah 8:12-13 (NIV) "Do not call conspiracy everything that these people call conspiracy; do not fear what they fear, and do not dread it. The Lord Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread."

It's hard for me to believe that Christian parents believe it's acceptable to lie to their children. There are no such thing as a "innocent" lie. Lies are lies. There are no exceptions. How many lies do you have to tell to be a liar? Just one. The Bible warns that all liars will have their part in the Lake of Fire. People who profess to be Christian may not think deceitfulness is a serious sin. But God certainly does!

When we were kids we knew from a very early age that 'Santa' was really our parents - but it was still fun 'making believe' that he wasn't.
Even before I was a Christian, I let my own kids know from even the age of 1 or 2 that Santa wasn't real (actually some children I know, are actually scared of the thought of Father Christmas, or the tooth fairy coming into the house...as they havent been told they're not real).
I just didn't think it was right, Christian or not, to let my children believe something that wasn't true.....and they still looked forward to Christmas just as much.

Does she attend school? If so, her classmates are planting the seeds of unbelief and by next year you won't have to worry about it. My son is 7 and thanks to school and 2 older sisters...he doesn't believe.

My concern is this: My daughter accepted Christ on August 12th (praise God) and I'm concerned that if not handled properly that telling her Santa doesn't exist will also shake her faith in Christ because she believes in Him too, but will she wonder if He's fake now too? I also plan on limiting our giving within our family and giving to the needy by either sponsoring a family or volunteering at a shelter.

Has anyone had this experience as a newer believer with kids? I would love some advice on how to handle this properly.
I say, let her grow out of her belief in Santa on her own.
Doesn't matter how much of a Christian you are or what beliefs you try and instill in your daughter. She has to accept God on her own.
Which is the way God wants it.
The most important thing to remember as a Christian in my opinion is that, you are saving no one by giving them the word.
Jesus does all the saving.
If it were any other way, there would be no Christianity to begin with.

wow! this is amazing. So all these Christians have no problem lying to their kids! No wonder people are losing faith in God left and right. There are no atheist churches per se, yet there are millions of atheists. Where did they all come from????? the churches!! The churches are producing atheists!! Why? because they teach so many things that are so obviously false--and this is a prime example. Young children's minds are a powerful thing. So much of who we are is determined in the first 10 years. our rate of learning and developing slows down considerably as we get older. If there is any life stage where it is critical to "bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord" (eph 6:4) instead of lies, it is in the early years. Every lie that a child finds out about when they grow older brings them one step closer to abandoning faith in God. No wonder the majority of church-goers today aren't even sure that the Bible is inspired.
My advice: sit the child down and explain that a lot of things are changing now. Our family is going to start doing things the right way and break the news. This will demonstrate the power of the Bible to change lives--your life and her life. If we want our children to TRUST our spiritual guidance, we must never violate that trust. "2Ti 4:4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 1Ti 2:4 who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 1Ti 2:7 And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle-I am telling the truth, I am not lying-and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles. 1Ti 3:15 if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God's household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.

Tell her the story of St. Nicholas and explain that this is where the idea of Santa comes from. Explain that adults and wise children, like her, enjoy pretending together, and enjoy taking turns playing Santa.

Your words resonate with those of the Pharisees who could only see the forest and not the trees.

No one, as far as I can see, has indicated that they endorse lying. What many have suggested is that perhaps some things do not matter. It did not mater to Jesus that he continually broke many of the Jewish commandments and challenged conservative thinking regulated along black and white lines.

Our lives are inevitably rather messy and ambiguous and there are many areas of grey in our life that we navigate with care but generally with fingers crossed.

Every lie that a child finds out about when they grow older brings them one step closer to abandoning faith in God.
This is an assumption at best. What evidence do you have to support this generalization? Very little if any I would venture. In fact, part of our growth and maturity is established through negotiating all the vagaries of human existence - which means negotiating all the inconsistencies with which life abounds. Your duty as a parent is to assist your charges to negotiate those times with love and understanding.

No wonder the majority of church-goers today aren't even sure that the Bible is inspired.
Another generalization. How can you possibly make that assessment? You cannot with any like accuracy. What you are doing is judging others by your own standards. The standards you set yourself are your responsibility - as are mine. But neither of us has any right to impose those standards on others however righteous we might think of ourselves.

If you intend to unpack every 'lie' that is circulating in society then you will have to explain the tooth fairy story, halloween, the Eastern bunny, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings and then there are all those stories in the Bible including the one about love and tolerance - quite a hurdle.

Perhaps there is a better way - perhaps it might be better to illustrate how it might be appropriate to follow Jesus - to act with love, with understanding and compassion rather than condemning every instance where some law or regulation is broken.

Jesus didn't break the laws of Moses, but rather the interpretation of those laws imposed by the Pharisees.

agreed! But lying or living honestly is NOT A GREY AREA!! It is the basis for all other beliefs. Honesty and truth are too fundamental to a person's current and future well-being.

This is an assumption at best. What evidence do you have to support this generalization? Very little if any I would venture.
of all the posts, why am I singled out as needing evidence to support my view? If it seemed necessary, I could find statistics on what percentage of Americans are atheist compared to a century ago.

yet you impose your standard of saying it's ok to lead a child to believe something that's not true

I absolutely reject all those mentioned--except the stories in the Bible. I'm not sure where you are going with that......???

Perhaps there is a better way - perhaps it might be better to illustrate how it might be appropriate to follow Jesus - to act with love, with understanding and compassion rather than condemning every instance where some law or regulation is broken.
love, understanding, compassion and .............oh, yeah, TRUTH!! "the truth will set you free"
Jn. 18:37 "In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me."
I would not criticize anyone for this normally because it's not my business. But it just amazed me that a new believer was being influenced so heavily by a large group of Christians to deceive their child. I think the other side of the coin needed to be presented.
