Reps: 10 (power: 0) | | | 2 sinners at the cross Hello and g'day all! I was searching for some info on the 2 sinners that were crucified next to Jesus but havent had good results. Most of the scriptures are very vague on it. Were their names known and also, from what I could find, only one of them actually recognized Christ as any sort of savior but he told them both that they would join him that day in paradise. thanks |

The gospel account of the cross has never logically made sense to me. I guess we have simply accepted the popular viewpoint because there seems to be no obvious alternative.
But there is...
The English Bible plainly says in numerous places that Jesus was crucified on a tree. Of course some argue about the translation of the greek word for tree. Jesus was probably crucified on an ordinary tree. Symbolically the tree of life was the Almond tree. The menorah was symbolic of the tree of life and contained images of almond flowers on it. The two thieves were crucified on the same tree 120 degrees apart and at different elevations as Jesus. The crosspiece, that they carried up to the top of the Mount of Olives, was nailed to the tree.
How do I arrive at this conclusion? When the soldiers were sent to break the legs of the three what happened? They approached from the side to the first thief and broke his legs. This was one either on the left or right of Jesus. Next they walked around the tree (on the backside of Jesus) and broke the legs of the second thief. They continued walking around the tree and lastly came to Jesus who was facing West toward the Temple. Seeing he was already dead theydid not break his legs. There only was one tree or cross.
I wonder why thieves were being crucified? I guess this must have been a Roman thing. Crucifixion was certainly not a Jewish practice. The Jews, according to the Mishna, (Sanhedrin) would jail and starve a cronic thief and then after a couple days would feed the prisioner Barley, which would make his stomach swell and burst causing death by peritinitus. The two (of Four) methods of Jewish capital punishment was stoning and death by fire. Fire meaning that molten lead would be poured down the throat of a restrained criminal destroying his digestive system.
Just an historical sidenote.

Troparion - Tone 4
Commanders of the heavenly hosts, we who are unworthy beseech you, by your prayers encompass us beneath the wings of your immaterial glory, and faithfully preserve us who fall down and cry to you: “Deliver us from all harm, for you are the commanders of the powers on high!”
Holy Archangel Michael, pray to God for me. "Why do you increase your bonds? Take hold of your life before your light grows dark and you seek help and do not find it. This life has been given to you for repentance; do not waste it in vain pursuits."~St. Isaac the Syrian To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater.
