Questions from an agnostic.

Hi,

Recently I have been doing a lot of reading into various beliefs (Atheism, Deism, Theism) and am struggling to place myself at any of these, so I guess that makes me agnostic.

I’ve found many Atheists to be highly fundamental in their approach towards to presenting their outright negation or absence of belief; to me this a boring and poorly considered belief. Essentially their premise is “I can’t see it”, while I do believe there is more to existent than what we can perceive, I don’t go as far as Theists and consider there is definitely a God. I would prefer there is a God on the basis that it provides some reason for existence, but there I’ve found there is little reason for me to do so, and as such I cannot commit to being a Theist.

It is not my intention to offend anyone here, I’m just curious as to how theists are convinced by God’s (in the biblical sense) existence. I’ve read bits of the bible, and do believe Jesus did exist ( it seems many Atheists even doubt this) although I’m not convinced of him being the “son of God”. It seems that most of Christianity’s belief is based on the Pauline Epistles and Mark, Matthew, and Luke’s gospels. It seems the validity of their historicity is fairly well established, however how could so much be attributed (i.e. Christianity) to their work? I’ve read predominantly Christian apologetics works as I don’t think Atheists such as Dawkins, Hitchens, etc much to bring to the table.

I’ve got a few questions that I’m also interested in hearing the responses to from the people here:

1 What is the basis for your belief in Christianity?

2 Do you think it’s unfair that those who witnessed Jesus first hand have more valid means to believe in him rather than someone like myself? And I do go to hell, why is this not a valid excuse?

3 If I was born into a devout Islamic family and resultantly were Muslim, surely I’m dealt an unfair disadvantage to being a Christian and therefore, entering heaven?

Like I said I do not intend to offend any person here with any of my assumptions or ignorance. I’ve found myself struggling with these questions/views and am curious to hear of a differing perspective.

The basis of belief in Jesus as God might seem like a circular logical conclusion to you. But let me try.

In all religions man seeks God. Through a pratice of religious rights and tenents man attempts to know and please God.
But the bible has a different God, the God of creation comes after man, He's in love with us even though we are his enemy.

So, Christianity is not a religion, it's only a repaired relationship with our creator, through Jesus Christ.

by simple observation it's easy to see that man has problems, the bible calls this sin.
The religions of the world seek to make people clean before God. That's not possible and the failings of religious people is proof of that claim.

But Jesus said that while we were sinners, He died for our sins to give us life.

So, for me that adds up. God is Holy, man is sinful, there is no approach possible through my actions or attempts to fix a broken nature. Christianity deals with reality, men are not worthy of knowing God.

Read something for me:
Romans 3:23 - for all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God. That's you and me and everyone.......
Romans 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death..but the gift of God is eternal life
Man deserves what he's headed for, but God came after us and gave us a way back.
Romans 10: 9-10.read this

You asked about those born into a muslim family. God says in His word that man is without excuse. The gospel of Jesus has the power to save. It's a strange and wonderful thing. I am an evangelists, I have been blessed to be at events where 1000's have come to Jesus in a single night. The words were simple, they were from the bible, no man can claim the power to change the hearts of so many with so simple a set of words.

I pray for those like me that are in places where they are not safe, but they go and they tell people about Jesus. many have heard and many have answered.

If I had no other reason to believe than the times I have seen the power of the gospel of Jesus, it would be enough.

God bless

Thank you for your response.

I simply cannot accept some of the rationale, it's not a choice - it's just how my mind functions.

I fail to understand why God creates people knowing they will be born into situations which does not allow them to be Christian and then persecutes them for not being Christian. It just does not compute for.

Also, I have 2 children, who I love dearly and would do whatever I needed to do for them. If they did not believe in me, or accept my word, I could not banish them to hell for eternity. This does not seem like love, it's conditional.

The only 'hell' I could accept would be life without Christian faith on earth could be hell, anything which involves hell is something I'd really struggle to accept. It seems God would have an insecurity and requires acceptance from those he created.

Why do you think some people view Christianity is such different ways?

I think people's worldview is formed by life experiences......until God calls them, at that point they have a choice to remain convinced that their experiences and resultant worldvew is correct, or they can ask the Lord to become lord in them.

The problem is the longer we live the more convinced and comfortable we are in our beliefs. Any seeker should know that the only reason they are intrested in spirtual matters is that God is seeking them.

If you read the scripture I posted, then you know that all men are fallen.
Read romans chapter 5 and see if it answers any of your questions.

God bless
