Is it good? Is it morally neutral? Remember, obey the rules and don't flame or anything. I want to keep this thread open! |

Pretty much what they're trying to do in reverse to Christmas and Easter. In almost everyway, the symbology of the holiday refers to the dark, fearful, scary things of the world....why exactly would anyone WANT to celebrate this?
Costumes: Dressing up as vampires, ghosts (lost souls), serial killers, zombies etc.?
Jack o'lanterns: Originally a light intended to "scare" dark spirits away from one's household.
"Trick or Treating": Originally a threat...give me something to eat, or I'll do something to you.
Everything here is about trying to take your fear and bring it to the fore. I personally find that we celebrate something like this abhorrent and somewhat disturbing. |

There's nothing specifically morally wrong about that (though I would love it if that was done on a different day!). However the day itself is a major day for the occult, and Halloween does have its roots in demonic practices. Growing up my family did the usual trick-or-treat thing and we turned out fine. However, now as an adult and more aware of what the day really is and what goes on, I don't celebrate it. In fact it's an important day to pray for those who have been involved in and/or abused by cults as this is a particularly difficult day for them.

It isnt what we think it represents today, but what the enemy uses it for, to mock our God. It is sad. Like Matthew ill use the occasion to hand out candy with some solid tracts while we celebrate Reformation Day with my children. My 2 cents.

While I do agree some cults are abusive; the whole "Satanic cult" panic was largely a myth that has be debunked. |

I'm not aware of any "panic" about it, but I do know that there are still plenty of cults out there, and I know people who have been abused by them. Horrific stuff that's too graphic to post here. It's easier to pretend it doesn't go on, I know. But the fact remains that it does. Should we freak out or become fearful that "they're coming for us next"? Of course not. Nothing like that. But we also should not ignore that these things do go on in the world and have compassion for the victims.

When I have kids I look foward to ejoying it with them. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | | | |
