I love Halloween too. When I first became a Christian people warned against the holiday, but you know, it's just plain old fun. AND I like horror movies too. |

I'll even go as far as to give treats when people come kocking because I'm trying to teach my son about giving. Thats about as far as my personal concience will let me go with it.
I don't love or hate halloween, but I honestly wouldn't mind if the day just came and went like any other day. |

These are believed to be accurate.)

Should we freak out or become fearful that "they're coming for us next"? Of course not. Nothing like that. But we also should not ignore that these things do go on in the world and have compassion for the victims.
I do not ignore the existence of cults and I support full action against them; for instance the recent raids against Tony Alamo's cult. However the claim that Satanic cults are engaging in some organized giant conspiracy and are sacrificing tens of thousands of children are at the least exaggerated. While unfortunately I can't post links I would like you to if you'd like go to the "Satanic Abuse" article in Wikipedia. |

What's funny this statement is that the logical conclusion should be, "And therefore it is morally neutral" - because it is nothing like what it originally was. Sure, if it was about doing witchcraft or celebrating devils or something that would be wrong, but like you say - it "no longer resembles it's origin", and thus cannot be defined as wrong. |

I thought I'd open this link - and was rather amused to find it was from Jack Chick's website - but would like to post a quote which represents what is really the central idea of his argument:
"Halloween is an occasion when the ancient gods (actually demons) are worshiped with human sacrifice."
I just find it amazing that people could find that a convincing argument. If that is true - that Halloween is an occasion when ancient god's are worshipped with human sacrifice - who cares? That isn't what we talk about when we talk about Halloween. When people celebrate Halloween nowadays it is so vastly different from the type that Mr. Chick is talking about that it's completely irrrelevant. Indeed, Christmas was originally a pagan holiday. But guess what - when we celebrate it now, we remember something different - our saviour's birth. The origin of what some people might have done on that day is completely irrelevant - it's about why we celebrate it now and what we do. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | | | |
