Creation & EvolutionForum for the discussion of this important topic. This forum is open to non-believers. There is a Christians-only forum in the Christians-only section too.
Abraham must of heard from God without a doubt to follow through. So yes, if I knew without a doubt God asked me, I believe I would obey.
Fair enough. At least you stick to your convictions. Although, I must admit, that response does scare the bejeezus out of me.

So you're saying God can't do what He wants huh? Why am I not surprised...

George Bush says he speaks to god every day, and Christians love him for it. If George Bush said he spoke to god through his hair dryer, they would think he was mad. I fail to see how the addition of a hair dryer makes it any more absurd.

As blunt as that is, I share the same sentiment. I do not think for an instant that god actually talks to people. I suffered from auditory hallucinations as a child, I know exactly how strong they can be, exactly how convincing they can be, and exactly how much coincidence factors into how you remember things. Never underestimate the power of your own mind to manipulate your perception of the world, it is much more potent than you imagine.
I distrust those people who know so well what God wants them to do because I notice it always coincides with their own desires.

God doesn't have to talk to people audibly, the inner witness can be as strong as if He did. God gave me a clever mind, despite all it's cleverness, it could never comprehend God as I can now. There is a place for cleverness, it is useful, but understanding the power and the mystery of the cross isn't it.
('Cleverness' as surmised by the grades I got throughout school, I'm sure there are cleverer people on this forum, just providing a personal experience)
I never said the hallucinations had to be auditory in nature, or visual either (and I had my fair share of those as well), or even hallucinations by definition. Your brain can appear to perceive on a much more subtle level, make you feel things for the sole reason that you expect to feel them.

When are you religious nuts going to see sense? until someone got to you and told you about the God you believe in you were Atheists, they could just as easily have set you up to worship Allah or any of the hundreds of other mythical religious figments of some ones imagination, surly you can see that much, the people who indoctrinated you decided what you would believe, not you.
And I know I am wasting my time because you all think you decided on your religion yourselves and you would never ever admit that it happened any other way, but that's religion for you, don't you find it strange that you chose the same religion as the people around you? (this is where all of those Atheist parent and friends start to surface)
does not mean you that you should keep your brain in a box, look around you and check things out for yourself,
ask yourself a few simple questions, like how did coal and oil get to be where it is? why are there tin, copper, iron, salt
and a hundred different metals and mineral deposited all over the world in the one place?
these are just a few questions you could find out the answers for yourself, read the books,
and when you're reading forget your religion for five minutes and see if what you are reading makes sense,
what have you got to lose? gaining knowledge is not a sin.
i was not "raised" to be a creationist. I grew up in quite a God-less atmosphere. It was a twisted, dark, confusing place. Frankly, it was quite evil.
Now, however, i believe in this God you do not believe in. I believe He did what He said He did. It requires faith, however. Faith is a gift of God.
I do not "have religion". I have a relationship with the God of the universe, the Creator.
Frankly, all the evolution stories i've heard on "how" this world came into "being" are just weak. None of it makes any sense. There is much missing with the evolutionary stories...like "why"....and the "how" REALLY boggles my mind, that those stating the "how" of it really expect anyone to "believe" any of it.
It all kinda falls "flat".

It's not even "too much Old Testament", in the Old Testament God is compassionate, shows mercy, is patient and long-suffering. Consider the lesson we learn from Jonah, or the word delivered to Ezekiel that God does not desire the death of the wicked, that God takes no pleasure or joy in the destruction of the wicked by desires that that the wicked repent and change their ways so they might live and have life. God has always been a merciful, compassionate, kind and patient God who has no desire for the destruction of the wicked, who has loving-kindness for the sinner and for the wicked person to change their ways and truly live and have life. -CryptoLutheran
