Not to many saying they're actually having the flu or know someone who has. I've been alive 55 years and I never get a flu shot, and I've only once in those 55 years got the flu. I know no one personally who has had the flu this year yet. I'll be 56 in January and I've already turned down getting a flu shot this year. Now if they had a vaccine for car accidents I'd probably take it, because I've been in quite a few of those.

I'm drug free, including all pharmaceuticals, I don't drink alcohol nor do I eat or drink anything with caffeine in it, nor do I smoke anything. I do try to take care of myself, but when I truly need help with my health, I'm glad to receive it.

My husband and I waited in line for 3 hours with our kids to get the vaccine, half of the time was in freezing temperatures and they ended up running out before we could get it. It was disgusting how towards the end, when the last hundred people were called and the rest were told to go home and come back the next day, people started pushing little kids out of the way to get to the front of the line! There were also many people there who were obviously sick. I find it sadly ironic that many at risk people probably caught the flu standing in line for the vaccine. I also know 6 people personally who have been diagnosed with it and many others who are complaining of flu symptoms. The news also reported that at least 30% of students are home sick in many schools. One teenage girl I know in another town in my province said that there are only 6 kids left in her class out of 30! With all these reported cases, there have only been 80 deaths so far in Canada from H1N1. Compare that to the 4000 deaths there are in Canada each year from the seasonal flu. I heard on the news that statistics of dying from H1N1 is about the same as winning the top lottery prize or being struck by lightening. From what I understand from all the research I have done on the matter, it's not the death toll that is causing all the panic, it's the number of cases and the possible effect it could have on the already damaged economy and health care system. Knowing the statistics and seeing first hand the severity (Or lack of) in my area, I am not going to put my children through another long, tiring and traumatic day waiting in line for a vaccine that probably won't even protect my children anyway. It takes 10 days for the vaccine to work and by then, with my oldest son in school, our chances of getting sick before the vaccine kicks in is pretty high. There's also a high chance we could be infected while standing in line or get sick from standing in the cold. It also worried me that in one article, in response to the question on whether or not it is safe to get the vaccine if you are already sick, it said that it is "not likely" to cause any problems. There hasn't even been enough testing done on this vaccine for them to be sure of that scenerio. From what I have seen and heard so far, I'm more worried about the vaccine and the process of getting it, than I am about the flu itself.

I am 24 and don't know a single person who has ever had a house fire, is this sufficient enough for me to drop my insurance policy?

One school here is already pretty well past the worst with H1N1. Their absenteeism peaked at about 30%

Just been a relatively few vaccinations available and it's for healthcare workers and young children. More people are immune because they had the flu rather than because they had a vaccine.

Seasonal flu is also present but not spreading near as fast. Shots for that are more available, but also in short supply.

To help things out a bunch of the H1N1 vaccine was exposed to too cold of temperature while in transit and so deemed unusable.

Most cases are not confirmed because there is a very small limit on how many samples can be set in each day for testing. I think our clinic can send in 3 a day max.

Haven't had any local deaths, but one boy was in a coma on life support for a day or so, about as close as one can get. He went in one day to the hospital and they sent him home and the next he was found passed out and blue. He was at high risk due to his asthma.

For most people it's been 3 or 4 miserable days and not much else. We are quite fortunate the H1N1 is not one of the more deadly flu strains, health care system would be completely unable to handle a more deadly strain, it's swamped with H1N1.

The making of vaccine with eggs is unable to speed up the process. So it basically is designed to get the vaccine available just in time for the normal demand. Not flexible at all.

I saw an article yesterday about the flu absentism may cause the government to close down websites to give the stockmarket width to continue with business. As the ill employees would be at home bogging down the internet. This gets stranger and strange as time goes on.

Exactly! My kids are 9 and 8. H1N1 is pretty active in our area (Southwest PA), a few deaths have occured locally and several hundred schools have closed. The absentee rates a really high in alot of schools. In our school, we've had about a dozen confirmed cases of H1N1.

We were very very fortunate, in that we were already scheduled to get our kids their seasonal flu shots at our peditrician's office which was holding a flu clinic. They got a shipment in of the H1N1 vaccine and gave everyone a choice between the seasonal or H1N1 vaccine. When we arrived, it was a madhouse!!! The office was jampacked and there were like 10 people in the parking lot. It took about an hour wait. When we left there was double the amount of people in the waiting room (crammed and getting testy) and in the parking lot there was like 50+ people. I was so thankful we got there when we did and that they were able to get the vaccine.

My 9 year old got the shot (as he has CP and apparently they can't have the mist) and my 8 year old received the mist. Neither had any side effects from the vaccine.

We were told due to their age, they'd be required to get a 2nd dose, but they're not sure if they'll have the supply. At least they some protection.

They showed some news coverage of other sites that had the vaccine and there were massive lines, people waiting hours. I think the more cases we get the more folks are going to being going nutso to get this vaccine.

Prayers for your dad, ThankGodforGod. Our granddaughter caught H1N1 at eleven months along with several of those in her daycare. She did very well as did the others, but she was quite ill. She later began fevers and ague again and was put on antibiotics for secondary infection in her sinuses.

There are two concerns regarding H1N1 that are seldom reported: First, this particular flu is a stronger strain and more difficult to shake. But, the more important concern is with every case, the possibility of mutation occurs. It is the potential mutation of this virus that is causing the greatest concern. When that happens, no one will have immunity, and the death toll will spike similar to what we saw in 1918.

I know plenty of people who've had house fires my next door neighbor had one a few years back, maybe it's because you're so young, that's why you don't know anyone who has had one yet. Does it make you mad that I don't get sick with the flu, except for one time, and I haven't received a flu shot in my almost 56 years of life?
