Well, one time that really stands out in my mind was when I was driving in bad snow in the Shenandoah Valley. Virginia doesn't usually get a lot, but this time it was.
I got the message 'slow down' I didn't question it and took my foot off the accelerator. A couple of 4x4's went right on past my ford maverick and I was only going about 20-25 mph. A minute or so later things got weird. I saw lots of red and white lights all over the place. As I got closer I saw cars sliding all over. I drove through with cars sliding in front of me and in behind me. My car was not touched. The closest approach was about a foot in front of and behind me.
I heard it in my mind, don't know whether you mean in my thoughts or talking but I heard His voice and knew I should listen.
God talks to us in many different ways. I have never heard an audible voice, though some people do. Sometimes I have had a 'feeling' about something which has prevented me doing something which could have had bad consequences... I think the Holy Spirit works with our consciences in that way.
Mostly, God speaks to me through the bible and through other people. His word is living, and it is one of the main ways He talks to people nowadays.
But, He is God, and He can and does do the unexpected... like speaking through a donkey, for example!

I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust."

Gods voice is often referred to as 'a still small voice' in our spirit. Sometimes he speaks unmistakably (and audibly) but otherwise it's impressions and feelings. He can speak through the bible, other people ect, all as already mentioned.I haven't heard his voice audibly, although I know people who have. But on occasions God has spoken to me loudly and unmistakably. Basically the more we push into him, the clearer and easier to define his voice is. On top of that, the more rubbish we clear out of our lives in terms of sin, particularly what we're allowing into our lives through tv, music etc, the less 'white noise' the devil has to block it.God isn't restricted in communicating with us in that when we wants us to know something (and we're open to it) the devil can't block him out. If we're genuine, we'll find him, but we have to be willing to seek because following God is an active thing.People can try to claim all the time that they 'tried' to find God and he just didn't bother to answer but that's garbage. God is always found by anyone who genuinely wants to find him.
Hi bluelime2, I agree with everything you write, but do want to add, sometimes it seems to us that God is a bit late in responding. And God does address this, He says that He is not late as we men count it as late.
In the bible it says god speaks to people, but im wondering if when he talks to you it is your thoughts or does he actually talk to you.
you can ask God to speak to your heart when you pray and ask him a question. Believe me God will answer, but first make sure you heart has no unforgiveness, anger, bitterness, and negativity in it. So just pray
I've actually heard God's voice speak to me. The words that were said weren't words I usually spoke in my vocabulary and they were words that I really didn't want to hear (because I'm stubborn). This has happened probably about 6 or 7 times in my life. When I heard them, I heeded the words. Maybe it's because I don't understand much of what I read in the bible. Or maybe it's because God needs to hit me over the head with a sledgehammer before I'll listen.

A barrel of monkeys is not fun at all.........in fact, the thought is quite horrifying.
Both ways, but most often by thoughts, hunches, nudges sometimes. God actually speaks mor eoften that we recognise. It's something we can learn to tune into better with practice and perseverance.
