Creation & EvolutionForum for the discussion of this important topic. This forum is open to non-believers. There is a Christians-only forum in the Christians-only section too.
I am not against science, it has produced many good things for the world, I'm just against the unhealthy degree of naturalism which is the prevailing philosophy of modern science.
"Darwinopterus"
Where I am there seems to be a glut of Darwin at the moment, for the bicentenary and 150 years since the publication of On the Origin of Species - after about 100 documentaries it gets a bit overkill.

Well, it is the 150th anniversary of Darwin's publication of Origins of Species. I haven't noticed that much, personally, but if you are feeling overwhelmed, there is definitely a reason for it.
And I'd like to just point out that the reason there's such an "unhealthy" degree of naturalism in science is:
1. It is science. By definition spirituality and the supernatural cannot be considered in science. It is by definition, a natural field.
If you are referring to the fact that a lot of scientists are atheists, and some seem to loath Christians....
Well, for that, I will just point to Creationsts, honestly.
How would you feel, if after about 10 years of higher education, getting your doctorate in your scientific field, having huge student debts, working yourself to the bone to get that education, working really, really hard, to get your degree, get your education, finally getting to work in your field.....
....and then, after you publish your study on the evolution of such and such or some transition fossils and such, you read in the news about an ID or Creationist diatribe. They call you a filthy Atheist (regardless of whatever you really are), they claim you hate God, hate children, have no morals, want to destroy America, need to repent etc etc.
AND THEN:
They go on to attack YOUR WORK. Bear in mind, you have just slaved away for nearly a decade to get your degree. This is probably a pastor who may have not gone to any school after high school, or someone in ENGLISH.
You have to sit there, reading someone who has absolutely no knowledge or qualifications in your field spew vitriol, attack your life's work, call you a moron, an atheist (usually with nasty epithets), a fraud, uneducated...
Then the completely unqualified creationist will proceed to spout utter falsehoods and display a complete ignorance of science as he proceeds to demonstrate what is "wrong" with your work.
Is it really ANY surprise at all that a lot of scientists are atheists, and that many of them hate Christians with a passion?
Creationists are an incredibly vocal segment of Christianity. They attack people's life work, they insult their intelligence, morals and educational quality of complete strangers.
In short. Scientists today often are so vehemently atheist because it is really hard not to totally loath the self-righteous when they are so obviously and utterly ignorant about the subject under discussion.
ahem. That is why.

I feel overkill about most things before anyone else does, I thought 3 series of Big Brother was too much, 2 series of the X factor produced 1 unnecessary celebrity too many, 1 A-Hundred-Best countdowns was quite definitive enough, multiple mindless quiz shows after the manner of The Weakest Link and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire were just overdoing it. I can't help overwhelmed with Darwin programs, I have a short attention span.

Ah, but people use to say, because something doesn't fit into this naturalistic definition, it therefore cannot exist. The philosophy has overtaken its boundaries.
The Bullet-Punctured Skull of Zambia, a human cranium, supposedly of the paleolithic era, that bears evidence that the person involved was shot to death with a rifle. Local geological evidence indicates (by uniformitarian standards) that the skull is 38,000 years old.

Could you explain what you mean by "the unhealthy degree of naturalism" prevailing in science today? Science is the study of the natural/ physical world and must therefore limit itself to natural/ physical laws in its explanations of natural phenomena. Unless someone comes up with a way of assessing supernatural effects or causes, it must be this way.

So, if it looks like a bullet hole via casual inspection, then it must be a bullet hole... at least, if that is what you desire it to be, right? All the other evidence can "Take A Hike."
