I would post this in the bug reports but it doesn't seem that there's a posting option in that section.
I've tried not only to upload and avatar from my computer but also hosted it on ImageShack and both times I get the error message "Invalid file". What gives?
We are having issues with avatars at the moment - bear with us, we are trying to get it fixed.
In the meantime, if you post it here, we ca load it up on your profile for you.

No, you can't. Because in order to upload the image for me you'll need a 3rd party link which I can't share until I have a certain amount of posts.
