Can an anime lover get in trouble for having Ecchi pictures?
To some who don't know, these are pictures of sexy anime women. Say for instance the anime lover has a lot of these pics with other normal anime and video game pics, but they're in separate folders. How could that person get in trouble?
Also I have noticed that some Ecchi pictures are border line to Lolicon. Such as Naruto and Pokemon ecchi.
First, how would anyone even know? That's the biggest thing to consider here. It isn't as if your computer is constantly scanned by the police to see if you're in violation of X or Y law - that's actually an invasion of privacy and illegal for them to do, just as conducting a search without a warrant (which is exactly what that is), is illegal. There has to be reasonable suspicion and a whole bureaucratic framework behind them to do anything.
Second, this issue is very very foggy in terms of what constitutes what, and because the definition of 'pornography' is often similarly hazy. Nudity doesn't equal porn, it depends on how it's being presented. Whether such provisions apply to animation is again a point of contention (made worse by the fact that Japanese and U.S. law differs as to the age of consent, and the enforcement of such laws), and what separates merely suggestive images and outright hentai, even though genitalia is required to be mosaic censored under Japanese law. There's also, even within that sort of content, problematic scenarios - Really Seven Hundred Years Old is an obscenely common device in anime, manga, and doujin, whether you're talking about hentai or not.

Is the pain of not knowing, worth the price of saying nothing?

Looking at the WiKi for Lolicon, that might get you in trouble depending on the laws dealing with artificial child porn, as the Japanese term describes an attraction to young girls.

Isaiah 8:12-13 (NIV) "Do not call conspiracy everything that these people call conspiracy; do not fear what they fear, and do not dread it. The Lord Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread."
Because a much more interesting thing to concider is the moral side... As a christian is it ok to look at borderline softporn pictures if they are drawn in stead of the real thing? The short answer is no. You feed a disire that grows ever stronger and I can guarantee that it'll get you into trouble even if it is not the legal kind.
