"Conservative Bible Project" -- what do you think?
I ran into this through another thread on the site, and I was rather shocked. This group suggests that all modern translations of the Bible have liberal bias, and they are trying to pull together a truly "conservative" translation.
Now I will grant you that there are some translations out there that definitely have a liberal bias, especially when you get into issues of gender inclusivity and such. Most of them tend to be dynamic equivalence translations (thought for thought) rather than formal equivalence (word for word). And if that's important to you (as it probably is for most of us in this forum) you can choose other, more "literal" translations.
But these folks are going a step farther, and critiquing specific phrases (Father, forgive them) and parables (woman caught in adultery) and saying that because they are too liberal, or are "twisted" by liberal Christians, that they should be removed.
Does anyone know anything more about this project? I'm just going by what I read on their main page (which I link above), and I'm pretty appalled by the idea. Am I missing something?

The trouble is that when we are truthful, the answer must always be "No." So let's ask the question a different way.
Has Jesus given everything for you? Has he dedicated his whole life to you? Has he invited you into his heart? And the answer to that is a glorious and gracious and conscious, freeing, comforting YES!
(paraphrased from Pastor Wolfmueller, Table Talk Radio)
I agree, lunacy. I can't think of anything less conservative than to try to rewrite the Bible for political spin. I used to be a full-time conservative movement activist (YAF, etc.), and I've known some pretty big names in conservative politics, so I think I'm qualified to say no real conservative would touch this. This is wacky fringe stuff, so it totally figures that Andy Schlafly and Eagle Forum are driving it.

I don't get it either. I looked at their site as well, after seeing a thread about this. It's just plain crazy. I completely agree that this makes anyone who calls themselves conservative, look bad, just because of this fringe group.
Bad enough that people misinterpret what the Bible says, and now we have a group that wants to rewrite the Bible for their own agenda. This is just as bad as the groups that want to make the Bible completely 'gender inclusive' or 'gender neutral'. Makes no sense at all.

After it worked for the church of the middle ages.

The Amazing Grace Baptist Church in Canton, N.C. will celebrate Halloween by burning Bibles that aren’t the King James Version, as well as music and books and anything else Pastor Marc Grizzard says is a satanic influence. This includes works by Billy Graham, because he occasionally used a Bible other than the King James Version. The congregation will eat fried chicken during the bonfire.
