MurrayHewitt is on a distinguished road
Christianity and Religion.

Now what makes one Christian i ask and how can you be one? Like many religions they follow a messiah and or a god. but Christianity has taken this to a new level. why'll this religion has cashed in on Propaganda for thousands of years i still am yet to understand why it has and what has made it a huge following?

i am simply writing this because of my feelings toward Christianity while some people will think this is about spite, i don't follow a faith and i am quite proud about this because i am not forced fed religion like some. But some people have taking this religion to a whole new, which they have taken there religion and basically forced it onto to people outside the church for example.
Why do non-Christians and more in particular a western society celebrate a Christian holiday i have no idea what so ever, over the course of history all religion has sparked a war,a conflict,a riot, a fight...

i would like to hear you thoughts about this please and thankyou...

hi,

i believe that every person should act according to her beliefs and good conscience and to the best of their knowledge. but alas, many are prone to peer pressure, group coherence, or other manyfold pressures.

this of course works until you have a personal revelation from god. god chooses whom he reveals himself to. i grew up in a religious home, and followed the traditions handed down to me before having a divine encounter and first experiene wth god.

it is possible for a human being to life an earthly life without devotion to the creator god, in ancient times people practiced fertility rites, the greks and romans also had manyfold other gods. but for a human being in its core it needs to follow something, so in a way you dont have a choice you´re always gonna bow down to something and be a slave to something. if you dont profess a religion its gonna be a soccer club, rock star, sexual partner, you collection of cars or something else.

jashua warned us of mass religions and mass movements. theres always gonna be masses of more sensual people, and theres gonna be less spirtual people. there are churches and pastors for both groups because god is not so cruel as to leave both groups without care and a safe haven. you can choose your place, with free agency, you can try out any faith group or religion i believe in the long haul we all end up where we belong.

good luck for your search.

God makes a person a Christian, less they should boast of there works.
What propaganda do you refer to, most propaganda has been anti Christ.
Why has it such a huge following, simple, Christ message is simple and universal.....Love

Forced fed? That is not a Christian attribute. I have never been forced fed Christianity or pushed it on others (mostly). Maybe a bit exuberant, but no force feeding others the gospel message
Maybe you are confusing Christianity with some other beliefs/religion

Ahm Christian holidays?
Christmas......Not Christian.....its pagan
Easter......Not Christian.....Its pagan
All religions have sparked wars. Can you remind me what wars you are referring to.
Evolution sparked the Greatest war this planet ever saw. WW2 was the product of Darwinism and Hitler. Go read Mien Kampf, Hitler wanted to purge the planet of lesser humans. Ahh, but evolution is a religion isnt it.

Muzza, you say you are not religious, even though you believe with faith that God doesnt exist, assumedly. That is religion

A lot of people call themselves Christian, yet dont accept the Bible. Bit like calling yourself an evolutionist, but not accepting abiogenesis

A Christian is a follower of Christ, all faults included. Difference is most Christians try to live to a NT biblical standard, not a standard they find suits themselves, not a standard they make up.
A lot of people call themselves Christian, but clearly are not.

I love how Christians can pick at other religions where love is suppose to be shown. I have been a believer for 11 years and this is the type of thing i have seen over and over again. When ya can not see love how can you see God. Seriously Weather a person is an atheist or not, does God not love them? All ya have done here is judge and condemn a person who is searching and prob really struggling....pffftttt.

Hey Murray,

Well there has to be something in it for people, from the days of the Apostle, to worship a man who was crucified, through to our generation today. If it wasn't true, that is, if Jesus was never crucified, if His body never left the tomb, then Christianity would never have taken off in the beginning. In response to the Apostle's preaching, people could simply say "No, that never happened." Something must have happened to the disciples, to empower them and embolden to proclaim the Gospel to their deaths for that cause. Ditto for Paul, who was martyred for Christ in Rome, 65 AD. The spread of the early church I believe is evidence for the truth of its message.

Added onto this, the evidence for Christ is so overwhelmingly strong; a good example is the book The Case For Christ by Lee Strobel, who was a sceptic when he undertook his journey of discovery, interviewing the top academics in different areas about the evidence for the Bible's claims of Christ.

I guess apart from the academic arguments, some people are Christians because they can see God working in their lives, to varying degrees. Other people may have different reasons.

i am simply writing this because of my feelings toward Christianity while some people will think this is about spite, i don't follow a faith and i am quite proud about this because i am not forced fed religion like some.
As was previously said, it is ironic that atheists don't acknowledge their own faith. Atheism, or humanism in particular, is the religion that is being forced upon children in public schools through the courses that they are taught, often as though they are the fact. Sadly, very few children and students actually critically evaluate what they are taught and simply accept it as fact.

But some people have taking this religion to a whole new, which they have taken there religion and basically forced it onto to people outside the church for example.
I think you're exaggerating it. There is a difference between talking about Christ, which is motivated by their concern and love for you, and forcing it on people. If people want to push it off, then that's their choice. If they want to listen, that's their choice too.

It would be gross negligence for a person to see a blind man crossing the road not realising a bus is heading right at him and not warn him or help him to safety, right? In the same way, if Christians are right about it all, then they are obligated to warn people about the consequences of our sin so that we can make an informed decision.

Why do non-Christians and more in particular a western society celebrate a Christian holiday i have no idea what so ever
Um, a day off work? Spend time with family? The more interesting question is do people know what they are singing when they sing Christmas carols with words like "Christ is Lord"?

over the course of history all religion has sparked a war,a conflict,a riot, a fight...
As was previously said, the majority of the wars have not been caused by religion. The main causes are land, politics, power, and racism (Rwanda massacre, Vietnam war, Iraq war, Korean war, Falklands, etc., etc..). Even the wars that involve religion aren't really religious wars at their core at all: the Middle East conflict at it's core isn't Islam vs. Judaism. The Arabs are angry because they've lost their land to another people, with many of their people displaced or, as some would claim, under Israeli occupation. It'd be the same as if the Chinese were given an entire state of America and place it under their control. The Northern Ireland conflict that thankfully seems to be over was not Protestant vs. Catholic at its core, but about the UK's hold on Ireland. It is a lot easier to convince people to be approving of your cause if you can convince them that what they believe in is being attacked or threatened.

Now what makes one Christian i ask and how can you be one?

I will answer this one...

We go by what Christ said.. being born again.. believing in Him and believing that the bible is Gods Word!!!
Giving our lives to Him and living His way.. Finding peace in our belief in Him..

You are wise by saying these things.. you cannot find God in things that do not reflect what He says.. He Himself says.. His kingdom is not off this world.. and you are right... alot of what Christians do is way off the mark.. leading away from God not to Him..

I understand what you say.. many are force fed and that would turn anyone off.. and it has me too in times past..

I am not sure why Christmas is still celebrated world wide.. when it is so far from what JESUS birth actually means I guess enough people embrace it world wide so it is accepted.. The stores in my state certainly want it keep it going.. they make most of their money that way.. Christmas decorations are out already.. in October... but those of us who believe in GOD can use this season.. to glorify HIM.. and find meaning and hope in what Jesus coming to the world means.. and it is from a place of hope and love.. we share this freely with others.. Not to turn them away.. but in hope that our message draws them to God..
