Reps: 22,655,783,805,506,600 (power: 22,655,783,805,515) | | Beck said on one show that he would do "the exact opposite" of what the government recommended and that his inclination is to attend a swine flu party and catch the virus now before it has a chance to mutate. He wouldn't take the vaccine because "you don't know if this is going to cause neurological damage like it did in the 1970s" (Sept. 30)--a prospect that has, incidentally been totally discredited. He also said, "People just feel in their gut, 'I don't trust these people any more...' They think our government could be so incompetent that they don't have any clue as to what they are doing." (Sept. 29)
Imbeciles. Utter imbeciles. There are those out there who would listen and take the advice of cretinous pundits who have exactly zero expertise on this matter over the warnings of professionals who have dedicated their lives to the study of viruses and how to contain them. And that's the problem here.
I'm sick of people saying "Oh they're just giving their opinion" or "They're not meant to be taken as anything but entertainment". Someone out there, someone who, for some utterly unfathomable reason, actually takes one word that these two wastes of flesh spew seriously, will listen to to these people and will do what they say. And they might die because of it. They might be elderly, they may be the child of someone who believes Beck and Limbaugh, they may have underlying health conditions. They will listen to what these petulant and vile pundits say on a matter that they have absolutely zero knowledge, credibility or experience. And they might die.
And Beck and Limbaugh will take absolutely no responsibility what-so-ever. And people will still defend them. The "GOVERNMENT" isn't always big and bad and Beck and Limbaugh aren't little guys sticking up for the common man. They don't care about anyone, especially not you. They don't care if you die. But tune in next time. We'll learn how not to breathe the government's air. That'll show 'em!
Disgusting.

2. I'm not getting a flu shot. Never have - not gonna start now.
3. Many people I know - even flaming liberals - are worried about the H1N1 vaccination.

Many people I know - even flaming physicians and scientists - are worried about the H1N1 flu.
....especially since they tend to target nontraditional victiims. One of my attending's new patient last week was found positive for H1N1. Not a a pleasant thing to experience.
The medical establishment highly encourage vulnerable groups to get it (pregnant woman, those caring for children < 6mo etc). And our medical school and the current hospital I'm at has notified us of the dangers of H1N1....I think I trust their advice over Rush and Hannity whose combined knowledge of immunology and microbiology is equal to zilch.
However, I think the media is blowing this out of proportion. Every year, thousands of people die from all kinds of communicable and preventive diseases. And the flu is not a huge deal for me either since working at a hospital, I'm exposed to dozens of diseases, but it's silly that people fear a vaccine over getting the illness. The H1N1 flu is not a good way to die.

There's a difference between not trusting the government - which is probably healthy - and being so distrustful of the government for no good reason that you fall prey to malarkey like this - which isn't healthy.
