So I guess you'll have to explain to me why you have an issue with that phrase. I mean, I could say "perusing" reports, but that doesn't really talk about what we do. I only use work in the sense that there really isn't any other term I can think of.

It is an issue and it does effect how mods will view reports.
Mods are expected to be regularly be in the reports. The number of reports we have certainly allows us to say "a mod needs to work (action) a certain number of reports". When our reports are down enough to where we're dealing with one or two violations a week that won't be so much of an issue, but we're sitting sometimes with 20-25 reports waiting to be actioned. Basically, the rule is there so that mods aren't just doing the "easy" part, voting and closing the NV reports. Part of being a mod is showing our members the correct way of posting here, and part of how we do that is through the staff contacts.

So the focus is still on "actioning" reports rather than "working" reports.

Working reports includes actioning reports. It's all part of the job.

when there's 20-25 reports that need to be actioned, yes, that's the focus. If people would quit breaking the rules, we wouldn't need to be so focused on actioning them.

I think the language tends to point to a mindset that the job of moderators is mostly (if not totally) to go over reports of bad posts.

I can certainly understand that, and as a supervisor and mod I can say that yeah, a good portion of the "work" that I did was in the reports. It drove me nuts, too. I wanted to be out in the field more, so to speak, and trying to take preventative measures so that we wouldn't have so many reports.
But you also gotta remember that working reports means all the reports, not just the ones that were actually violations. Even the NV reports take some time to research and find context. Sometimes, ruling a NV took longer than ruling a violation.
That's why I'm trying to be here more often and out in the regular forums, at least Society-wise. I view my "job" here as trying to make CF an enjoyable experience for all members.

But i think if the mods and Adminstrators would pay closer attention to the site rules themselves and actually follow them there would be less contention .Frankly there is not a mod or Administrator who at some time has not broken a rule on this site including yourself so my question would be who is policing the police ,,,?

you have a join date of today yet you're going to tell me I've broken the rules myself? You have no idea whether I've broken them or not, although I'll tell you I've never received a staff contact in my almost three years here.
There's a system of checks and balances here. If I am reported, the advisors of this site are the ones who rule on it. I have no say, the report is moved out of my line of sight...so I am treated no differently than regular members when it comes to reports. And yeah, none of us are perfect. So we try the best we can under the circumstances that we have.
I find it interesting that you chose this thread on your first day to post in. Have you been a member here at CF before?

I would assume it is a sock of a user who would rather not be identified. Some feel that complaints get them labeled as "trouble makers" and reports start going against them. I've seen some real "what the...?" warnings posted ~elsewhere. I've gotten one or two myself after being labeled a counter-revolutionary. Well, at least that's how it feels at times.
To my knowledge, there is no rule against socks here.
