Creation & EvolutionForum for the discussion of this important topic. This forum is open to non-believers. There is a Christians-only forum in the Christians-only section too.
Okay, I'm going to try this again since the last thread has been completely derailed.
My question is to creationists.
Do you guys believe that your salvation depends on interpreting Genesis literally? If so, why?
Thanks!
I believe that God most certainly puts more importance on the "why" we were created than the "how" we were created. I also dont believe your interpretation of Genisis would grant you salvation. However your interpretation of these verses matter to your salvation.
John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
John 3:16-17
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
John 14:6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Acts 13:38-39
Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:
And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.
Romans 1:16
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
Romans 3:23
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Roman 6:23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Roman 10:9-13
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Ephesians 1:13-14
In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
Ephesians 2: 8-9
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Philippians 2:12
Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
Colossians 2:13-14
And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
1 Thessalonians 5:9-10
For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
Titus 2:11-14
For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
1 Peter 1:8-9
Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

I asked Jesus "How much do you love me?" He answered "This much". Then He stretched out His arms and died for me.
If you have everything but Jesus, you have nothing. If you have nothing but Jesus, you have everything.
Have you given much thought to where you are going to spend eternity?
Believing in evoluition makes Christianity difficult to defend. I believe in the literal translation of the Bible. It says what it means and means what it says.
I tlaked with a lawyer in my church today. He agreed with my opinion. An example of the problem of defending the gospel is what do yo do with sin and the original fall if you believe in evoltion. The bible gives the reason for death as a punishment for sin. To succesfully convert unbelievers to be effective Christians, sin and repentance must be preached becasue that is the truth of the gospel as Jesus preached it.
The Hebrew word for day in Genesis one is yom. If it is used with reference to morning and evening and/or a specific number ie. first day, second day, then it is considered a literal day.
I have never heard a theistic evolutionist try and argue that the original sin and the Fall never happened, based off of their belief in a non-literal creation story. This is a straw man that Creationists use.... I find it interesting that they are the one's having trouble believing in original sin together with Evolution. I have no such difficulty.

I imagine this could be a difficult issue for some Christians, but does the Bible really say death is a punishment for sin? You could read the story of the Curse in terms of God stopping Adam from becoming like one of them - another immortal god. After all, Adam and Eve were banished from the garden before they had a chance to eat from the tree of everlasting life.
Genesis 3:22 (NIV)
And the LORD God said, "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever."

No, salvation does not depend on believing ("interpreting") Genesis literally. God's grace is sufficient to cover our sins. Salvation is by grace alone by god alone through the work of Christ on the cross alone.
However, I find it sad that believers have their faith emasculated by allegorizing and interpreting the Bible where it is reduced to myth and subjugated to the twisted interpretations (bias) of man using historical science ie. evolution. Man is petrified of the judgment to come for their sins so evolution gives them the out of not being accountable to a loving but just God.
