Paine Field, in Everett, Washington, had a wonderful vintage aircraft show two weekends ago featuring over 60 aircraft from the golden ages of aviation. Including WWII fighters, trainers, and civilian aircraft. The weather was perfect and it was a great experience, featuring 6 hours of non-stop flying!
Here are some pictures from the event, starting off with a classic biplane, the Boeing/Stearman PT-17,
I was extremely pleased to see this rare bird, a Consolidated PBY Catalina. This was an aircraft used by the US Navy and Marines during WWII to find submarines and recover downed pilots and was the most successful flying boat ever produced. This specimine is now a firefighter!
Impressing the crowd, here, with a speed-of-smell flyby! I was shocked to see how slow this aircraft was! It has a very "draggy" design.

Splish-Splash!!! Automated aircraft wash system!
No vintage fly in is complete without a P-51 Mustang!!
What's better than one Mustang? Two Mustangs! Here is a VERY rare P-51B Mustang with Malcolm hood!

Another first for me! I've seen this airplane out on the ramp many times but haven't seen it fly... until two weeks ago! This is another very rare aircraft, a Grumman F7F-3 Tigercat! It was produced just after WWII. It's a massive fighter with a great radial sound.
Be still my heart!!
I hope you enjoyed these! It's the last "airshow" I'll be seeing for quite some time now, with all Saturdays dedicated to "advancing my education!"

If you have flown, perhaps you can understand the love a pilot develops for flight. It is much the same emotion a man feels for a woman, or a wife for her husband.

The highest art form of all is a human being in control of himself and his airplane in flight, urging the spirit of a machine to match his own.
