I found it not-a-waste-of-time to watch. I'm only saying not-a-waste-of-time, I'm not saying if I liked it or not, if I agreed or not etc so that everyone can form their opinion .
I was told it was shown on greek TV ET-3 at some point during the summer, preceded by discussion featuring the monk that narrates, professor Yannaras who was very much on the monk's side & somebody else opposing (I don't know who). |

I saw the programme on ET-3 with monk Tychon and Professor Yiannaras. It was nice to listen to father Tychon speaking about his documentary live on television. I watched the documentary not too long after it was produced and I really loved it. It sheds light to many factors explaining why the empire collapsed. It was also very interesting to know Yiannaras view on the movie. Fr. Tychon was giving a lecture about his movie last month in Athens. If I am not mistaken, fr. Tychon is also the spiritual father of the PM of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin. As far as I know he is a highly respected figure back in his country.

It was very obvious that the monk narrating it had a certain political agenda in mind. Still, it does touch some issues that we greeks don't (want to) face normally - the most obvious being that the eastern roman empire was *not* in fact a "greek empire", at least not until its late period.
It's also true that history is *always* written with an agenda in mind, so in that respect it's at least not worse than any other attempt to explain / analyse history. I found it good food-for-thought.
I for one self-identify as a greek-speaking roman .
