I already acknowledged that Dawkins subsequently tried to explain away what he said. And I didn't say Dawkins believed it, I said he took it seriously, as evidenced by his words "that's an intriguing possibility". He's a famous author, lecturer and debater. He should be able to say what he means, and not say what he doesn't mean. Or better still, maybe he should stick to practicing biology.
Still, on what basis could he
not take alien intervention seriously? If abiogenesis happened here, it could happen elsewhere. True, there's no evidence for it and it's speculative, but it's not laughable speculation; it's logical and consistent with the ideas he already has.
