Dan 8:14 "unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed"
While this thread will not go into the fulfillment of the this prophecy, it will cover a lot of concepts regarding the Lord's cleansing program.
Let's face it, the way in which the temple services were performed were and have foretold future events in God's great plan for mankind. With the first coming, Yeshua fulfilled the first feasts with details that are now just being unearth. So with that in mind, I have opened up this thread to discuss a very key event in the second coming fall feast.. Yom Kippur.. which I thought would be very appropriate.
The cleansing of the sanctuary. .... I have read where some have thought that meant the earth is the sanctuary, being as God's footstool, and that it would be purified with fire. But I believe that is a big stretch, so I thought that we should take this slowly and see what we can simple see.

Paul in the Book of Hebrews indicated that "then verily the first covenant has also "ordinances of divine services" and a worldly sanctuary." Heb 9:1
"Ordinances of divine services" says to me that while the Levites were performing these services, they were larger than the performances in the first covenant and in the temple in Jerusalem. This is saying to me that what was seen on earth was a poor imitation of the real thing going on in heaven.
The sanctuary itself was first constructed out in the wilderness under the direction of Moses according to what was revealed to him while up on Mount Sinai. The entire design was a replica of what he learned in God's presence. The details in the building and the services performed within were all laid out before Moses in detail and he wrote it all down.
The first compartment of the Holy temple was for all the daily services that continued all year but once a year there was a special service that was called the Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur. It's purpose was the cleanse the sanctuary and the people of sin.

EX 25:8 "Let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them"
This sand pile example was a construction that could be removed from place to place and yet be a magnificent structure. It walls were plated with gold, and had sockets of silver, and the roof consisted of a series of coverings, with the outer being of skins. Is not our temple covering consisting of a outer layer of skin?
The inner most layer was beautiful linen with figures of cherubims. If we are the temple should not our iner layer also consist of beutiful thoughts of heavenly visions? If anyone else has any idea why the Lord has chosen to cover the inner layer with cherubim designs, I would like to hear it.

The two compartments in the Holy area were divided by a veil which I also understand was richly decorated with cherubim design. On another thread we had a great discussion on whether it was this veil or the veil that separates the outer court from the Holy area that was torn from top to bottom. For the sake of not having this thread get into which, we will go with the outer court veil where the public could see, and where the separation of ministration by the daily priests would be exposed, thus allowing the public a view of the menorah, shebread table, and altar of incense which we now have access to, through Yeshua ministrations for us in heaven as indicated in Hebrews and Revelation.

There is only one sanctuary that ever existed on earth that Paul declared was the sanctuary of the first covenant. In the Book of Hebrews, the truth about the second or new covenant sanctuary is implied by the what Paul said "Then verily the first covenant had "also" ordiances of divine services and a wordly sanctuary" That word "also" intimates that Paul mentioned it before and the only place I could fins was "now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such a high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Mejesty in the heaven; a minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man." Heb 8:1-2
This is the sanctuary of the new covenant. The first covenant sanctuary was pitched by man, this one is pitched by God. One was on earth, and the original is in heaven. Paul said that the first tabernacle "was a figure for "the time then present", inwhich were offered both gifts and sacrifices;"... the holy places "patterns of things in heaven" and the priests who offered the sacrifices.. served" unto the example and shadow of heavenly things"
But we know that "Christ is not entered into the holy place made with hands, which are the figures of the true, but into heaven itself, " and....
Now" to appear in the presence of God for us". Heb 9:9,23; 8:5; 9:24.

That gorgeous inner covering with the angels and the blue, purple, and scarlet colors has to be reflecting the glories of the heavenly temple where the angels and Christ minister before God. The heavenly temple is filled with the glory of the God on His Throne, where the seraphim veil their faces with their wings in adoration.

John saw an angel" offering incense with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which is before the throne" Rev 8:3. Obviously Joh in vision was permitted to see the first compartment of the heavenly temple otherwise, how could he have seen the seven lamps [menorah], and the altar of incense. He saw " the temple of God was opened" Rev 11:19. He even saw the "ark of His testament" which contains the Law of God.
So that means that Moses made the earthly sanctuary after the pattern shown him. Paul declared that that patter is of the true sanctuary in heaven and John testifies that he saw it in heaven.

The right to rule... is what God is sitting on. In the Most Holy place in the Ark of His testament is His Law. Those tablets of His Law are covered by the "mercy seat". THis represents the union of justice and mercy in God's plan of redemption.
Those cherubim look down upon the mercy seat, which to mean says the the heavenly host must be contemplating the work of redemption. Probably the biggest mysery is how do you do justice with mercy or have justice and yet be merciful or do justice fairly. I know this human race and members of CF have been back and forth on the balance between justice and mercy.
THis mystery of mercy... How can God be just and justify redeeming a repenting sinner. How can our Messiah Yeshua stoop so low as to raise untold multitudes from the abyss of ruin, and cloth them with spotless garments of His righteousness, uniting them with angels who have never falledn and to be able to dwell with and in the presence of God forever.
This work of Yeshua as our intercessor reminds me of a beautifl prophecy in Zechariah who said " He shall build the temple of the Lord; and He shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon His throne; and He shall be a priest upon His thronel and the counsel of peace shall be between them both." Zech 6:13

Forgive me for setting the scene before we get into the nitty gritty of Yom Kippur itself.
Important truths concerning the heavenly sanctuary and the work of redemption were taught in the earthly sanctuary but are being carried out in the heavenly one.
I believe that God is taking our minds from the earthly to the heavenly to the indwelling.
Paul hinted at it when he said "the chief corner-stone unto a holy temple in the Lord; IN WHOM YE ARE also are builded together for a HABITATION OF GOD through the spirit." Eph 2:20-22
But everything has its order and in its own time frame. Just as there was a time and place for the earthly sanctuary, so also will there be a time and place for the ministry of the heavenly sanctuary in our lives. But ultimately I believe the indwelling of the temple services will be in our hearts and minds forever as we live and breath.
Right now we are in the midst of "Christ, reconciling the world unto HImself." 2Cor 5:19. This ministration is being carried out in the sanctuary above.
