Mina raised a brow, her smile fading as she listened to Kirk's story. "Sounds borderline criminal." she murmured. Just as quickly, she amended, "But I'm sure you wouldn't do anything that you knew was wrong, in this situation. For that reason, I like to think you aren't out of place at all."
She couldn't help but give a cocky grin at Jace's compliment to her fighting style. "I'm no pacifist, that's for sure." Mina agreed. "My father taught me well; or so I like to think. I think you'll not find much in the way of secrecy or-- well, anything short of forwardness in our conduct during this undertaking, Kirk. Hopefully you'll be more at home working with us than for your, er... connections."

Antonio looked at Kiva almost steady on as the death knight went on about how ill equipped he was to face Reinhart. Then he told him he was to be used to create more fear in the populace, taking more innocent lives and wreaking such havoc that men would loathe Lord Kiva's force so all consumingly that the Paladin in question would be drawn out and would pursue them.
Some still, small part of his heart screamed against this and said NO! But such was his mania, his obsession, for Mina Gottenkrieger, such was his desire to possess the power to claim her, he nodded and said, "I will ensure there is such hatred and loathing for you, all men and women will be longing for your head to be on display in Kelamir, Reinhart himself will volunteer to come out to you, my lord."

Jace's brow rose as Mina verbally jabbed at Kirk, relaxing as she clarified her statement. He smiled at Mina's proud, toothy grin. She was sassy, alright. Jace nodded and put in, "Mina's right about that, Kirk." He gently shouldered his fellow lieutenant and teased, "Forwardness in our conduct isn't exclusive to THIS undertaking. You'll never meet a more straightforward bunch than this when it comes to battle or just about anything else, my friend."

"Don't get me wrong," Kirk said, "I trust this guy. It's just... Well, I'm a soldier of Peria. I'm not a paladin, I'm not an agent of any sort, and I'm certainly not comfortable being a delivery boy. I can march, I can fight, I can drink, and I can strategize. Give me a good battlefield, a wide birth, and a long weapon like this," he stood the poleaxe next to him and reached to pat the head, "and I'll be more than content. I know it seems a little ungainly for a dwarf to wield, but my old instructor, one of the Flinks, taught me the benefit of big swing."
The darkness in the room was palpable. Tuan may not have known by experience how dangerous the waters that he was diving into were, but he was intelligent enough to have a pretty good idea. Of all the members of their company, Philip had a pretty good idea that only he, and now, Tuan, were in full knowledge of how dangerous the situation was, how futile it promised to be, and lacked the confidence that a higher power was guiding their actions. It was a terrifying concept. Like standing on a slippery cliff face, with the darkness too great to know which way is up or down.
Philip jumped out of his chair, knocking it over as he stood. His change from lethargy to energy was so sudden that even he couldn't help smiling at the situation.
"Not sure who cares about what the elves do anymore, except, if I were to guess, all of Peria. But that's not what I'm here for. We're not here to fix anything, just to take out the diseased organ. Someone else can scrub the floors after we kill the thing. But that's neither here or there or anywhere. Now, you and I, ARE here, and we're staying here. Principles or not. You're in the current now, friend. You might be able to bail out, and try to hide. But you and I both know this is the best option. As to your effectiveness, of that, I can hardly suggest. At this point in time, I'm about as effective as a wooden sword, so I'm hardly the man to ask."
Kirk smiled at Asha's comment, but continued his explanation, "You see, the Flinks are a family of Dwarves renowned for their dexterity. I understand that in the ancient days, dwarves were a lot more nimble in things other than stone and metal, but now, the Flinks seem to be one of the last. The Flinks are good with daggers, bows, just about anything that needs quick and precise finger-work.
"Anyway, my teacher was a Flink, like I said. He was, of all things, get this, a whip user. Can you imagine: a dwarf, out on the battle field, with a whip? But his knowledge of angles and "fizz-sicks," I think he called it, taught me that, the further an object is from you when you swing it, the faster it moves and the more power it carries with it. He demonstrated it by cutting through a solid rod of steel with his whip. Now mind, he used a metal whip formed in the fashion that only a dwarf could do, but still, to cut through metal with a limp object, he had me convinced. I didn't have the nimbleness to use a whip, so, he gave me a weapon I could use: a halberd. The long shaft gave me a great distance meaning more speed and power, and a dwarf's strength and weight helped balance the weapon's weight in a way that a proportional human couldn't do. It was awkward at first, but I committed myself to learning it, and now I can more than match any swordsman despite their having the lighter, more maneuverable weapon. Hopefully it will be useful to you, instead of just being a delivery boy," he added with a hint of indignation.
Mina stared at Kirk for a moment, gaping at him. A little bit after he'd finished talking, she remembered herself and closed her mouth. She had been intrigued at first, but that quickly turned to shock as she listened to his description of his master's feat of... fizz sicks. The Lieutenant cleared her throat and took a sip of her mead before commenting, "Wow. That... it boggles the mind, Kirk. I mean, it makes sense, but..."
She shook her head in bewilderment. "War against undead and elves is troublesome, but if the dwarves train warriors such as that? I think I might just surrender if I was pitted against an army of your sort of fighter. On a lighter note, though, we're in need of a good polearmist. We lost our last one in-- wait. That's not a light note." Mina frowned, saddened by the memory of Seamus' recent loss. Awww, now she felt bad. She gulped down a bit more mead, hanging her head and forgetting to resume what she was saying.
